… As OBJ pays condolence visit
From ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE, Kaduna
Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo yesterday hosted traditional chiefs of Kaduna State to a special meeting, soliciting their support for the new Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
This was just as former president Olusegun Obasanjo paid a condolence visit to the state over the death of the late Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa.
At the meeting, Sambo commended the traditional rulers under the chairmanship of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris for the support they gave him while he was the governor of the state and same that was extended to the late Governor Yakowa.
While noting that, their support assisted him greatly to succeed in maintaining relative peace in the state, he appealed to the chiefs to extend similar support to the new governor.
According to the vice president, “we are here on the sad event of the late Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and we pray that God give him eternal rest.
“I called this meeting to solicit your support for the new Governor and his Deputy, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero and Ambassador Nuhu Audu Bajoga. They need your maximum support and cooperation as traditional institution to ensure peace and development of Kaduna State. I know you can do it and am sure you will do it,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Chairman and Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris said they were ready to support Governor Ramalan Yero.
While he noted that they needed to ensure that Kaduna State remained most secured in the country, the Emir told Governor Yero not to hesitate to call them for whatever form of support and assistance.
Meanwhile, Chief Obasanjo has condoled with the state government over the death of Yakowa, describing the late governor as a bridge builder, who strived to ensure the development of Kaduna State and its people.
He urged the new administration under Governor Ramalan Yero to carry on with the beautiful programmes of the late governor.
Emir of Zazzau, who responded on behalf of the state, expressed appreciation to the former president for finding time to pay condolence visit to the government and people of Kaduna State.
