From NOAH EBIJE, Kaduna
There was pandemonium yesterday in Sabo Tasha area of Kaduna metropolis when an object suspected to be an explosive was sighted near a power generating transformer. But the state Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Adenaike told Daily Sun on phone that it was refuse that was wrapped in a polythene bag, and kept in the area which people mistook for an explosive.
“It is not bomb, it is rubbish, a kind of refuse dump that was wrapped up in a leather bag and kept near a transformer. When our men put the detector, they discovered that the leather contained rubbish. “I think there is need to hold meeting with you journalists again. Any small something you say it is bomb, do you want bad thing to happen in Kaduna?” he asked. The scare which happened at about 5 pm, according to eyewitnesses, kept travelers away for some hours from entering Kaduna town from Kafanchan, Kachia, Abuja and other towns.
Daily Sun gathered that as soon as the news of the object spread in the area, markets closed abruptly, just as people living near the transformer scampered to safety to avoid being affected by possible explosion. According to an eyewitness who did not want his name in print, “It is unusual to see refuse dump around the area.
So you don’t need to blame the people for taking to their heels on sighting the strange object.” It was further learnt that the person who dumped the refuse was apprehended by the youth in the area, and was almost lynched, but for timely intervention of the police.
