From GEORGE ONYEJUIWA, Owerri
Former militants, who embraced the amnesty programme of the Federal Government in Imo State, are threatening a showdown if their allowances are not paid in the next three days. The ex-militants, who briefed journalists yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital during a joint meeting of the Orashi and Enyimba camps, pointed out that the non-payment of their allowances since December had brought hardship on them and their families, saying they were unable to send their wards back to school after the yuletide holiday.
The leaders of Orashi and Enyimba Camps, Prince Emeka Igwe and Andrew Nwakotubu, warned that further delay in the payment of the allowances might disrupt the peace and tranquility currently being in enjoyed in the oil producing areas. They accused the National Assembly of trying to frustrate the efforts of the Federal Government on the amnesty programme, According to them, “the last time we were paid was December 13, 2012 and since then we have not been paid because of the delay by the National Assembly in passing the budget.
We have been holding back our boys who have been passing through financial challenges as a result of the non-payment of the stipend but after Friday we will no longer guarantee the safety of oil installations and personnel in the region.” Warning further, the ex-agitators, who commended President Goodluck Jonathan and his Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku over their commitment to the amnesty programme, stated that, “although we are happy with the success of the programme if someone makes a living from kidnapping and bunkering and you convince him to drop his arms and embrace the amnesty programme you should strive to keep your own part of the bargain or he will have no option than to return to his only means of livelihood.”
Meanwhile, another group of agitators numbering over two hundred from the oil producing areas of Ohaji/Egbema yesterday staged a peaceful protest in Owerri, accusing the Federal Government of excluding them from the third phase of the amnesty programme. Leader of the ex-agitators Andrew Edwin, said they were promised by the Federal Government during the arms verification that they would be included in the third phase of the amnesty programme He appealed to president Goodluck Jonathan to urgently address the act of marginalization and injustice against the South-East before it degenerated to breach of peace and security in Imo State and Nigeria as a whole.

It is only in Nigeria that criminals maintain fixed office addresses and demand their own share of the national cake (oil proceeds) from the government. In other countries, criminals are fugitives.

These Imo militants are not ashamed of themselves. Their mates from Ijaw are travelling round the world and collecting billions of naira worth of contract while they are asking for peanut allowance in Owerri. I will advise them to relocate to Abuja or Yenegoa. That is where other militants are a havig a field day.
@Kalu:
A typical comment from Kalu. To you what the Imo imbeciles are doing is OK. You are a human being capable of thinking? Have you ever given it a thought of what would happen if Nupes, Ishans, Junkuns, Edos, Yorubas, and others jump into the militancy bandwagon? Perhaps you want a state of anarchy to get what you want.
these fools should be executed , you can threaten a whole government in security are go free , this is the harvest of evil our government are sowing . One to carry arm against the state amounts to treason and to negotiate with the same amounts complicity . We have executed coup plotters in the past it is hard time we start executing militants
ROCHAS BRING WAHALA FOR HIS SELF BECAUSE HE WANT TO SALE APUGA TO NORTH
Go and look for good job my brothers and stop surviving on evils. what is the meaning of militant that FG should be paying you money, how about us who did not take up guns and knifes? Does good thing not pay anymore? we should be the ones to be paid and not destroyers like you. fools, if I see any of you near Egbema or Uguta, I will set you ablaze.
My question now is , why placing Rochas picture in that caption.
U guys should leave imo state out of dis,nd face fc on dis matter
Late Yar’ Adua started the amnesty not GEJ. He saw the merit before taking that action. Those in power have information we don’t & act accordingly. So out of ignorance people condemn others whose villages, farmland(s) & waters have been destroyed by the oil companies operating there. He that bears it feels it. If at least 10% of the oil wealth STOLEN from their land is used to put things right in these areas, we will not see militancy but the money is taken to far away Abuja (to develop it & other parts) & also shared/ given to lazy beggars in the name of one Nigeria. How many of us have taken the pains to visit the oil producing areas. I mean the real places not the cities. Arm-chair theorists always claim to know better than those in the field & who experienced things first hand. Talk is cheap while facts are sacred.
It is sad and absurd that most Nigerians, especially our Bros. From the South West, Ve delibrately chosen not to see any thing good in matters affecting,Ndi-Igbo in Niga.If not, what is the Crime committed by the Leadership of the Ex- Millitants from the Zone, who were duely screned and accepted into the Amnesty prog -ramme of the Federal Government,as their counter parts from the South South Zone. In as much as I, dont encourage the grant of amnesty to the Millitants, but since these groups have been screned and became beneficiaries of payment of Salaries from the Federal Government, and have bn receiving Salaries as the Ex-Millitants from South South,up to Dec. I3th,2OI2.I dont see anything offence committed by the Ex-Millitants dema nds’for continued payment of their mon thly Salaries from the Presidents’ special assistant on Niger Delta Affairs,Mr Kingsl ey Kuku.I therefore, want to advise that since this groups did not benefit from the Fed. Govt.Sponsored overseas trainings as most of the Ex-millita nts from the South South, the Fed.Govt. Should consider the award of Security Contracts to deserving ones,as has been done to South South,Ex-milli tant leaders to assist the Security agencies in its fight against Social ills in the Region, such as the Kidnapings,Rape,Arme d Robbery,Reduction of unemployment among the Youths and other Socital ills.I also wish to advice, the Mr Kings ley Kuku, led Fed .Government team to consider all ex-millita nts in the Zones who have been duely verified for the amnesty programme, to eraze any suspicion of maginalisation by the affected millitants from any of the Zones. After-all the Federal Goverment is presentl y asking the leadershi -p’of the Boko Haram Terrorists, led insurgen ts to lay down arms,so that their requests for grant of Amnesty could be considered by the Federal Govern ment authorities. Consequently,I wish to remind all Nigerians, that no single Ethnic group,as presently constituted in Niga could live in isolation of other Nationalities, so for peaceful co-exis tence as a Country,We must all exhibit great caution in all our comnents on matters affecting fellow Nigerians’ in National discuss ,no matter the level of animosity one must have harboured against a Tribe, the people or its Religious belief or pratice.
THIS IS THE JOKE OF THE CENTURY… A CRIMINAL ASKING THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY HIM MONEY … WHERE ARE WE HEADING TO IN THIS NIGERIA????
Haaaha naija pple una never c yet.is wot our so calld politicians started let dem finsh it..chck wot a senator is taking per yer as basic salary not evn d allowances,,so any 1 can come up wt so calld flimsy trash and get wot he wnts.God help us.we must survive
SATAN WILL PUNISH YOU GUYS WELL, DON’T GO AND LOOK FOR JOB SO WHAT IS THE RIGHT OF OTHER HARD WORKING PEOPLE FROM THE SAME AREA.YOU REFUSE TO WORK AND HOPE TO MAKE TROUBLE..YOU WILL JAM TROUBLE WITH BIGGER TROUBLE LAZY IDIOTS.
Is it not much better for the government to be paying them the armnesty money as they promised, even if they never promised them anything i suggest that the armnesty be paid to them bcos it’s due to them, that money is nothing to be compared with the money those thieves are loothing everyday in the govt houses and offices, or are they trying to tell me that if the nigerian oil is being produce from the north, there won’t be armnesty to all the citizens of that state? am sure the hausas will be happy to pay thier people the money but our own will be trouble bcos they would want to share it among themselves. thieves!
Kidnapping is crime, oil bunkering is crime and any perpetrator should be tried and convicted if found guilty.. Amnesty provides immunity from prosecution but paying them money is BRIBERY gone too far pure and simple.. those who pay these guys so called allowance for not committing crime including thieir spokes people should examine ther concience and should be arrested and tried for what is already a threat and unrest to the state. People carry out peaceful demostrations in other counries for pay rise, human rights and other positive reasons but definitely not for being stopped from commiting crime. POLICE AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE WEAKNESS is an issue here – I’m a proud IGBO from oil producing area but this is neither in my name nor in th name of all hard woking NdigboGreat who have lost hope in the govt but doing their things.
NdiIGBO,well to do people don’t mind all those yoruba beasts that is commenting against Igbos.they want Bughari to come and fuck their women and kill their men for free if there is any fools.you need to come and see yoruba men, women, even boys and girls and even Hausas included wobbling Ebonyi, Enugu state and other easthern states. If u ask them why are they like these they will tell you that there is a drought in their home nation.
Why so quick tempered and your language too, so pathetic.
Why should an excellent business man, a man of substance, who invested the £20 Awolowo gave him after the civil war to become so rich pay some hoodlums that are looking for cheap money?
@london pls be reasonable in ur coments..pls alwys read wit understndin tnx..@sun..why did u guys put Rochas pix dia ?
There’s too much money in Nigeria – the money is all oil based. The Government should pay the ex-militant already in the amnesty program, because it’s their rights; it’s their privilege. The ecological damaged caused by oil exploration in their(ex-militant) home towns impacts them directly economically, educationally, and agriculturally.
I think they should demand for empowerment rather than monthly stipends from the FG.
MANY OF U CONDENMING THE DEMAND BY THE EX-MILITANTS ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MISCHIEVOUS OR BOTH.LAST TIME THE UNITED NATIONS REPORTS CAME UP WITH AN EYE-POPPING REVELATION ON THE DEGREE OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION IN THE OIL-PRODUCING STATES IN NIGERIA.EACH YR THE FG ALLOCATES HUGE SUMS OF MONEY TOWARS MAKING ABUJA A WONDERLAND WHILE MANY OIL-RICH COMMUNITIES ARE LEFT DESOLATE.COME TO THINK OF IT,HOW MUCH DO THESE PEOPLE RECEIVE AS ALLOWANCE?COMPARE IT WITH WHAT OUR LAWMAKERS RECEIVE EVERY MONTH,JUST FOR COMING TOGETHER TO ACT COMIC FILMS IN THE NAME OF LAW MAKING.I AM NOT A MILITANT.GOD FORBID!BUT AS WOLE SOYINKA WROTE IN HIS BOOK,The man died,THE MAN DIES IN ALL OF US IF WE KEEP QUITE IN THE FACE OF INJUSTICE AND IMPUNITY.WHAT IS GOOD FOR ABUJA SHOULD EQUALLY BE GOOD FOR THOSE WHO SUSTAIN IT.EXCUSE ME.
Quiet,I MEANT TO SAY.
FG since u have begun paying, pls pay up and in time too. Also take note, Nigerians are becoming the wiser. Members of the National Assembly are feeding fat on the resources of the nation, yet Fed Civil Service employment test taken since last year has been swept under the carpet. You are trying to ignite an inferno. I just hope you will stand to bear it. Nothing is being done actually to alleviate the scourge of unemployment. WHAT TYPE OF GOVERNANCE IS THIS?
When civilized societies realized they”ve made a gross mistake, they quickly come around and correct it and not repeat it. It is amazing how some of you are justifying money for militants/criminals because Umaru Yar”Adua started it. If Yar”Adua was a sane individual, he should executed those bastards. In any society, advanced or primitive, militancy and kidnapping are met severe punishment. Many of you boast of how intelligent Igbos are yet your utterances depict that of retards. As for the picture of Okorocha in this story, he is Governor of Imo State and the two hood-looms demanding for money are Imolites. There are many honest and hard working Imolites but by condoning blatant criminality, you are degrading Igbo’s integrity.
@Benbela.I AM NOT SURPRISED AT UR TRUE-TO-TYPE COMMENT.SMALL MINDS LIKE U WEAVE EVERY NATIONAL ISSUE AROUND ETHNICITY.DO U KNOW HOW MANY REBELS THE USA HAS SPONSORED OVER THE YRS?CHECK OUT NICARAGUA,ANGOLA etc.IS AMERICA NOT CIVILIZED?IT IS INHUMAN TO USE RESOURCES IN THE EAST TO DEVELOP THE NORTH AND WEST WHILE LEAVING THE SOURCE OF THE WEALTH DESOLATE.4RM UR TONE UR A YORUBA BIGOT.U CLAIM TO HAVE A MONOPOLY OF KNOWLEDGE WHEN IN ACTUALITY UR FILLED WITH HOLLOWNESS.
Actually, nothing concerns Rochas in this matter. Imagine, criminals that are suppose to be behind the bars, are issuing threats to the indigenes of Owerri. Ex-militants or whatever you called yourselves, you people better stay quite or if you try anything funny this time around, you people would dearly pay for your actions, so be warned.
