Okonjo-Iweala’s mum regains freedom

From: PAUL OSUYI, Asaba

Prof. Kamene Okonjo, the mother of Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been freed by kidnappers.
Okonjo, 82, was abducted five days ago.
Special Adviser (Media) to Okonjo-Iweala, Paul Nwabuikwu, confirmed this development in a statement.
The statement by Nwabuikwu reads in full: “I can confirm that Professor Mrs Kamene Okonjo, wife of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Chukuka Okonjo, and mother of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy/Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was released this morning, five days after her abduction.
“The Okonjo Family is full of thanks to the Almighty for this happy development.
“The family is also highly appreciative of the support and encouragement of President Goodluck Jonathan; the country’s security services for their excellent operations; Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Peter Obi of Anambra, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and other Governors as well other friends and well-wishers within and outside government for their prayers and encouragement during a very difficult period. “
Okonjo was kidnapped on Sunday night by eight gunmen at the palace of Prof. Chukuka Okonjo.

I pity nigeria journalists, instead of them to conduct investigative work and tell us how she was release rather they will be waiting for the authorities to inform them what they want us to know.

There is no responsible government that would have paid one cent to secure her release. The fact remains that she would be released unhurt and those who played that game has made their last kidnapping.

Nigeria as a country are worthless in the eyes of the world for such a disgraceful act on the family of Okonjis.

Apart from this urgly incident, many people may not have known that the father is the traditional ruler of her village and her mother a professor. This is a family that has been living well, without looting. They are not noise makers and all those dubious nigerians who have made their money illegally.

They are learned, worked and retired to their village. Why must people harrass them because her daughter is a minister who have come to correct the ills infected into nigerian economy.

Those who kidnapped her in the first palce will not go unpunished.

Jonathan is not a serious human being. This govt is not serious. Our Journalists are not serious. That is my submission.

  27. SYLVESTER December 14, 2012 at 3:49 pm - Reply

Does it mean that the abductors warned them not to reveal how much ransom that was paid? Does it mean our Journalists were bribed not to tell the story? How could we trace the activities of the perpetrators and seek to stop them subsequently? Why is that that a minister’s mother was invloved and the govt decided to know its function,as if kidnapping is just a novelty thing? There are so many questions on this issue that Jonathan and this PDP govt must answer.

i want the kidnappers to kidnap one of the political chiefs parent and kill him or her then they will learn how to take issues concerning kidnapping seriously in Nigeria. take for instance, if an ordinary person is kidnapped, the govt will not care about it. they only care about themselves because they are like cartel.
