The Action Congress of Nigeria has said the election that produced Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election was fraught with lapses.
The ACN, in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, said the party managed to perform brilliantly in the election in spite of many challenges, glaring lapses in the system and institutional inefficiency.
It said it was still studying the details of the results of the election before taking a final position.
Akande said despite the fact that the party acknowledges the right of the people to choose who rules them, there was the need for the process that produces leaders to be transparent and credible.
He said there were glaring shortcomings in the process that threw up Mimiko.
He said in the statement: “I have just been told the final results of the Ondo State governorship election.
“As a party of democrats, we in the Action Congress of Nigeria have always known that the choice of who governs has always been that of the people in situations where the electoral process is transparent and credible.
“Therefore, all politicians worthy of their salt must always expect victory or defeat.
“We recognize that it is the sovereign right of the people to decide what kind of government they want.
“This is the challenge of democracy.
“Our party believes that there was and still is need for change in Ondo State.
“Thus, our party will study carefully the general details of the results with a view to taking a final position.”
Akande praised the candidate of the party for the election, Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu, saying the ACN remains proud of him.
He said of Akeredolu, who came third after the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barrister Olusola Oke: “Our party has always been and remains proud of our candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and this election has reinforced our confidence in his ability to lead and stimulate life back into the Action Congress of Nigeria in Ondo State.
“Through him, our party will continue to express gratitude to the leadership and general members of our party and to the electorate of Ondo State in general.
“We are glad that they performed that brilliantly in spite of many challenges, glaring lapses in the system and institutional inefficiency in the conduct of Ondo State governorship election.”
Akande added: “”I must congratulate our teeming members in Ondo state for their hard work at resuscitating the party and putting it in a position of reckoning in such a short time.
“Our party will continue this post mortem analysis of the lapses in all the institutions involved in the conduct of the Ondo election.”
ACN should always accept defeat when it’s their turn.
ACN will never accept defeat. The fact of the matter is that ACN can only win elections through the courts and rigging-congratulations to Mimiko-regardless of the fake dollars tinubu imported into ondo state
ACN has now seen lapses because they failed woefully but there were no lapses in Edo election. It is the style of ACN and Lai Mohammed, where are you? Talk and fire without allowing your gun powder to be soaked by flood.
Regional oness should have nothing with party togetherness, others in the north and south east are in various parties and yet sit together to discuss their region. Moreso, ACN cannot be a good opposition party if it’s a Yoruba party, we are not looking for Yoruba opposing others.
mimiko deserved to win.The election was trasperent and he won the election based on the vote cast by the voters.Any person who challenge the credibillity of the election ;has nothig to gain.

The lesson to be learnt in this election is: It is very difficult to win an incumbent anywhere in the world. And the difficulty increases if the incumbent is a performing one like Mimiko seemed to be. ACN put a lot of energy in the election knowing full well that they might lose. This loss now weakens their upward ascendancy nationally and seemed to slow their meteoric rise in the West. And their constant complaint of electoral fraud whenever they lose is unbecoming. They look agitated, petulent, and petty with their whining. They need a new strategy if they want to win nationally. And they should avoid alliance with Buhari. Any alliance with him will further alienate Nigerians including Yorubas from them. Buhari can never win any elections in Nigeria. Moreover, CPC is a one-man show.
I am happy Chief Bisi Akande has recognised Mimiko’s victory at the polls. However, he should let his party men know that Iroko is ‘atari’ ajanaku’ for them to fell! Jagaban should go and sit down to calculate how much he lost on Akeredolu.
Senator Tinubu and Ex gov Akande should simply congratulate the Iroko and thereafter bury their heads in shame for Ondolites have spoken. They should emulate president GEJ and senate president David Mark for congratulating the winner even though their party also contested the same election but failed. Akeredolu knew from the outset that he would fail because he was forced on the party by the powers that be in ACN.

I want to thank God for a free, fair and bloodless election. Thank God that we are now experiencing true democracy except for a PARTY that still handpicks its candidate. In a state, they have caretakers as chairmen of local govt. while the house of assembly is under the control of the executive. I think this is undemocratic and such is not good for the development of our dear nation. Finally, I wish to congratulate Governor Mimiko and urge him to be faithful to his electoral promises.

The ACN should learn how to accept defeat not every election should be decides by court.Tis is not like EKITI election where FAYEMI single handedly fought for his mandate, not national body fighting for third class candidate.Accept defeat and congratulate the winner IROKO.The ACN slogan will not sweep IROKO from the firm ground.Accept defeat and re-write your failed paper next semester.
What does this defeat of ACN and its self-acclaimed “progressiveness” tell us? They alone do not have custody of progressiveness, whatever that means. Nigerian voters are gradually growing up.
