…Warns that Nigerians’ll resist use of army to rig 2015 elections

Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that it is an insult for anyone to say an Igbo man cannot be president in 2015, warning that Nigeria will continue to wobble on her journey to nationhood and socio-economic development unless a president of Igbo extraction is realized.
Kalu who received the zonal leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in his country home, Igbere, Abia State called on Igbos to stop being problem to themselves by being pessimistic, but prepare to lead the country in 2015, and urge other Nigerians to support the Igbo presidency project, if Nigeria must make genuine progress.
Said he: “The country is troubled because the God anointed people are not there yet, until they take over the mantle of leadership, Nigeria will not have a pride of place in the world; we have no pride of place, we go to the United Nations we look like a rat, we go to European Union we look like a rat, we go to comity of the world leaders we look as if Nigeria is not speaking. “Forty eight years after the civil war, it is an insult for somebody to tell you that Igbos cannot be president.
If all these tribes can be president, who among them is more qualified than an Igbo man. We are the salt of this nation; we are the best things that happened to this nation. Anything good comes from the East and we are the genuine Easterners; unless we rule this country the country will never be okay.” Orji lamented that 52 years after Independence, the economy, roads and other social infrastructure had collapsed and called on Nigerians to come out and defend democracy.
He urged Nigerians to resist the use of soldiers and armed policemen to rig future elections, insisting that the way and manner the current crop of leaders emerged accounted for poor performance and continued decay in infrastructure. He advised current governors to be themselves and work for the welfare of the people that elected them into office and to stop being lap dogs of the president, stressing that governors who had been subservient to presidents since the nation’s independence never achieved much in office as they ruled with fear.
“It has also been shown that those who boot-lick presidents in Nigeria since independence never do well; they don’t even tar the roads, they don’t give free education, they do nothing to salvage their states because they believed the president is their boss; if the president asks them to go and put their house on fire they will go and do it, which I feel is not in consonance with democratic concept. “We have enough as a country to feed our 200 million people; we have enough in human and material resources to make our roads better. People are not being given what they bargained for because they are not genuinely elected; these results are written, supported by the army and the police, these people are shameless.”
He vowed to sensitize Nigerians to resist election rigging in future saying: “They will never do it again. It is going to be one man, one vote and no army man will carry any ballot box again in Igboland or in Nigeria, we will not accept that. It will not happen again. Even if he is general to heaven, we will fight him and fight his whole family. If they do what is unconstitutional, we will repeat what will be unconstitutional too because that is the only way we are going to check this rubbish.”
The former governor who became popular for criticising the Obasanjo administration for the bad roads in the South East decried the deplorable state of roads in the zone and blamed both the federal and state governments for the situation. “People of our area, leaders of Igbo people have turned to perpetual liars. Government rule now on television, on radio and on propaganda. You cannot say you are good Leave the people who are being governed to say who is good or is right.”

Honestly speaking i don’t see what Kalu has to offer this nation Nigeria. Am always disturbed each time it comes around that Orji Uzor Kalu who failed woefully in leadership criticizes the leadership style of others. This is a common feature with past failed leaders from South East, Nigeria. It is sad that among the 3 Southern geopolitical zones of Nigeria, States in the South East have remained the least developed and sadly former Governors like Orji Uzor Kalu are to blame.
The state of Aba, which is undisputedly one of Nigeria’s privately driven commercial hops, makes it very difficult to forgive Orji Kalu’s 8 year misrule of Abia State. There was absolutely no strategic effort to re-position Aba even when it is obvious that a well-developed Aba can provide all the IGR that Abia State needs. It is sad that while Orji Kalu’s personal (global) businesses in banking, publishing, education, etc., thrived and are flourishing Abia State sank into an abyss of leadership failures, thanks to his misrule; its towns have remained dirty, difficult to access, and filled with refuse dump hills, all because Orji Kalu and his infamous team of short sighted politicians serviced their pockets instead of building infrastructures and institutions that would outlive them.
Now that he is out of government and perhaps desiring to return to political relevance, an angelic melody of self-deceit is flowing out of his lips. Nigerians need to identify crooks like Orji Kalu wherever they are and pursue them out of the public space. Orji Uzor Kalu is bad news.

To be honest, a Ibo man will not be a president given the fact that the Hausas are scared stiff of having Ibo ruling the country. They have feelings that they will be much more marginalized comparable to what they think they are facing now. Yorubas where lucky to have the presidency with Obasonjo at the helms with the Hausas thinking is their lackey , thanks to Abiola. Give credit to where is due, OBJ broke the Hausas monopoly of the Hausas on the military as well as split them up politically. As of now only the Yorubas have a rally point under Tinubu’s leadership the rest of the zones have no leadership that they can rally under. Apart from political parties, I think Igbo leaders suppose to have something like Igbo leaders association meeting (I don`t know wherher it have been existing) This association will stand as Igbo leaders family meeting, so that our political parties diffrences will not affect our brotherhood as one IGBOS.This will help us to bring the best from the nation back home, it will help us to bring good development back home, this will help us to unite, because without united, Igbos can never rule the nation. I get upset when he goes around making noise. Look at the state he ruled for 8 years and used his power of incombency to install a prisoner in office. Kalus fight seens good by all intents but he should first of all visit Aba his state before making the whole Nigeria to believe that an Igbo Presidency is all that we need. Governance is not an Igbere affair,it is all about leading by example. Nigeria as presently constituted seems not good for us because Presidency is only thing everybody both young and old, rich and poor talks about,so a situation where we will not allow Nigeria to grow to real Nationhood because of which tribe whether qualified or capable becomes president can only tear us apart and make Nigeria under developed country for as long as we put tribalism and religion as credentials for who would become our president.
Though, i personally do not against an Igbo man becoming our president in future but our compatriots from the South East should not add tribal sentiments that will make other tribes feel insulted because no Single tribe in Nigeria can make a president without votes from other regions.
As a Yoruba man, i thank God that i belong to a tribe that did not spare their own like Obasanjo when he was in power for eight years while some of his closest allies came from South East and other regions in Nigeria.
Further, the Yoruba nation has never lacked good governance in the South West until the PDP took over in 1999 to 2007, thanks to God because that has become history as PDP will never win any State in the South West as long as democracy thrives in Nigeria, so its better a progressive minded Politician like OUK joins other progressives from South West and other Regions in Nigeria to wrestle power from PDP in 2015, so i advise him to join UPGA as a progressive party in the South East from where he will reach out to other Progressives in other regions.
The best alternative is for Nigeria to go back to regional Governments where each region will develop at its own pace, the defunct Western Region under the Premiership of great Chief Obafemi Awolowo witnessed the greatest developments in Nigeria as at then, so if given another opportunity to run Regional government in the south west we have great Leaders that will excel on what our Hero, Baba Awolowo achieved in the West then, i know my people will never vote for those guys PDP imposed on us in the South West States as Governors and Obasanjo as President between 1999 and 2007 if Nigeria operates on regional governments.
I am a man that has friends across Nigeria and beyond, so i plead with my friends from South East to shun tribal sentiments when commenting on national issues because a tree can never make a forest. God bless us all.

Nigeria will never witness the greatness we are yearning for if tribal, regional and religion lines are not put a side. At 52 years we are still talking about tribal politics. Go to Ghana and see how patriotic they are, you hardly notice any tribal, religion and regional differences there, except am a Ghanian. We should learn to look at ourselves as Nigerian first before any regional, tribal and religion sentiments, otherwise no progress for us.
