EFCC storms Imo over contract awards

From GEORGE ONYEJIUWA,

Owerri There was palpable fear at the weekend in Owerri, the Imo State capital, following the visit of operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the state to probe activities of the previous and present administrations in the state as regards the awards of contract and the management of government finances.

When the Saturday Sun visited some of the ministries, staffers, who appeared to be jittery, declined comments and referred the reporter to the appropriate quarters. It was gathered that some of the commissioners had gone into hiding to escape the EFCC operatives, who have been in the state since Wednesday and have quizzed a substantial number of former commissioners in the state.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Rev. Emmanuel Ebomuche, denied rumours of his arrest and detention by the anti-graft agency. Ebomuche, who confirmed that the EFCC operatives were actually in his office on Thursday, said he was never arrested nor any of officials of the commission. He disclosed that they demanded records of contracts and financial dealings of ISOPADEC from 2007 to 2011, regarding contracts that were awarded before he came on board.

He described the speculation that he had been whisked to Abuja by the EFCC as “malicious and desperate attempt” by politicians to tarnish the image of the commission. “EFCC operatives were here and they demanded official working documents of the ISOPADEC from 2007 to 2011 and we handed all documents to them,” he said. According to him the, commission, in the last one year under the Rochas Okorocha’s administration, has been battling to reverse the cases of abuse of office perpetrated by the commission during the previous administration, disclosing that between 2007 and 2011, ISOPADEC received about N10 billion without any thing to show for it.

However, Imo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chinedu Offor, said that the visit of the EFCC to the state was not strange, as it has nothing to do with the present administration, adding: “EFCC is a government agency that has the right to demand the working document of any state government. Their visit to the state is to investigate the billions of naira spent during the previous administration.” Offor, who described as unfounded the rumour that some of the commissioners have become jittery, noted: “The current commissioners have nothing to fear; we are in our offices doing our work. This administration is barely one year old and we have nothing to hide.”

due process is not respected by state govts as if they are not bound by nigerian laws. even federal govts don’t duly obey the act which they circumvent one way or the other

EFCC, pls work hard to review the administration of Achike Udennwa and that of Ikedi Ohakim. Under their regime, IMO poeple wittiness the worst governance in our time. We saw no progress in terms of development in all fares of live, still their regime collected 13% derivation from federal government as oil producing state for good 12 yrs, is that not inhumanity to man? EFCC, arrest the two former governors now that you people have sincerely remembered to rescue the stolen money from those rogues in Imo land. Why Achike and Ohakim are still moving freely in Imo state, that question baffles me so much. EFCC, pls work! Work!! Work!!!, so hard concerning these two criminals and their cohorts, commissioners and all the rest office holders that drew the state backward for twelve good years, idiots.

My fellow people of Imo in the forum, you have all spoken well. It show how dear Imo is in our heart, we all will like to see a better Imo State in terms of development. Those of us clamoring that EFCC probe the formal administration of Achike Udenwa and his fellow PDP criminal Ikedi Ohakim shouldn’t foget that the belong to the family of rougues called ‘PDP’, we should also remember that Ohakim bosted that his is untouchable having the backing of GEJ presidency and their criminal mentor BABA Iyabo. Ohakim contributed millions to fund GEJ campaign. More than evil was done in their 12yrs in Office but the fact that same family of ‘thieves’ are still there at the head, EFCC remains powerless to prosecute this 419s. God will see the Easthern Heart Land through, I love Imo too much.

State House of Assembly become contractors themselves as a constituency projects. Today some of the contracts was abandoned after collecting the full payment. Why is EFCC going to Owerri/ Imo state instead of visiting the known LOOTERS INTERNATIONAL PLC in Abia state? Does Abia only come first in the alphabetical arrangement of states in Nigeria? Please take T.A. Orji and co back to Kirikiri and make sure they never come back. A visit to Abia state needs no other court to put those rogues in chains all their lives.

EFCC should work hard and maintain their integrity in this matter, because as soon as they are bribed, they forget their duty. Ikedi 0hakim should pay back all the money he collected from the youths in the name of giving them employment.

I can bet with my life that all comments recorded here come from people living outside Imo state. We are on ground here and we can tell it all. Gentlemen, what we were told is no longer what we are seeing. Those of us who fought the former Imo Governor Ikedi Ohakim have today realized that the man was a common thief. The present Imo governor Rochas Okorocha is the main armed robber. In just one year, the man has succeeded in destroying the state while using perfectly his voodoo to keep everyone gazing and confused. I have refused to be this deceived. I challenge every contributor here to name one single project the Imo governor can boldly say he started and finished in Imo state ever since he assumed office. Let’s leave sentiment apart here and face facts. Just name any single one. It is easy to ask a contractor to go and brush up roads in the pretext that they are being constructed. Find out why the roads have all been abandoned today. No contractor has been paid a dime. It is easy to say education is free up to university. Find out how true this is going in the state. As I am writing now, less that 15% of Imolites were offered admission by JAMB. The rest are non indigenous. A niece had to pay N250, 000 to Okorocha’s aid to be offered admission into the Imo state university. This could even be a fraud. Under the former administrations, we had Local Govt administrations. Any of you could say ‘how much were they given by the two former governors?’ But whatever amount they were given is better today than someone who decided to sack the grass-root govt and has continued against all courts’ judgement to embezzle the allocations meant for the council all alone. Who is fooling who? I bet that by the time EFCC rounds off their operations in Imo, my brother from the same town – Okorocha may be the one to go to jail. His charm is gradually fading. You may kill my position, but pls dont kill me for my stand.

efcc – a bra kata abra; if u take this I chop u, but if u take that, I chop u. d more u look, d less u see – that is the card game in this Kasino called eefcc. In the name of God pls leave Rochas alone as your visit looks ill-timed. That you were not there in the past four years and or you forgot that there were governors there before Rochas means that your visit is not needed again.

I bet u, efcc is not after ohakim or udenwa, they are after Rochas. Pdp want to disorganise d state.

Don’t celebrate anything & don’t be carried away. The whole set up is to harrass d opposition. Hw can somebody think dat anything good can come out frm the mago-mago visit. To start wth, hw many ex-governors have they arrested so far?? All they are looking for is good arrangement for hard bargaining & subsequent settlement. Don’t forget, they are equally looking 4a piece of d national cake like d NASS. (tanx to d presidencial largesse) They hav almost concluded jobs over here & we know frm d onstart hw d end will look like. Toothless bulldogs!!!

Hog wash! Don’t be fooled folks. The FED is after Owelle who has declared interest in the presidential race of 2015. Going after Ohakim is just a ploy. Igbos should stand up to this intimidation antics.

EFCC should leave Rochas alone, are they going to probe him for performing beyond the Nigerian standard? or are they probing him for turning IMO into big construction site? or are they probing him for refusing to steal our common wealth? For your information no body can intimidate Rochas in case if that’s what you intend to achieve.

GEJ is trying to default Okorocha because he is ashemed of him self, considering Okorocha’s achievements just within one year in office as gov. of Imo state. EFCC is not in imo state to look into the past administration of Udenwa and Ohakim. Are they not in this nation during Udenwa & Ohakim’s administration, tell me what stops them from invetigating to know how this two criminals are looting & misusing the states money. Who did not see what was happening during the time of Ohakim, where is efcc then?. The point is that we are far from the truth, i thank God for Okorocha. No matter the type of alligation leveled against Okorocha by Gej & his PDP counterparts, am 100% sure that they cant get him. Long life Okorocha Imo people are with you. I only want to let Jonathan know that “ochi nwa okuko nwe ada”. Since Gej & PDP doesnt need the truth, i pray they must fall so that the light of truth will shine. Pls Jonathan i beg you leave Okorocha alone!, leave Okorocha alone!!, leave Okorocha alone!!!. For Gods sake.

Good move but let Efcc probe all the 27 local government chairmen in IMO state, from 1979 till 2011 more over those under the administration of Ikedi Ohakim, this is very important. and God will judge Gej & his PDP counterparts. long life Okorocha.

I am also of the school of thought that the men of the EFCC are not actually after the previous governors of Imo state. Rather, they are after discrediting Gov Rochas Okorocha. Period! »»» (http://www.LiveSpeech.org)
