Abia CP tasks policemen on security

Despite the purported recent pronouncement of cease-fire by the Boko Haram, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabor has warned officers and men of his command to always be security conscious, saying the police were the main target of any criminal or insurgent group. Aisabor, who gave the warning at the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, Umuobiakwa in Obingwa Local Government Area in continuation of familiarization tour of police formations under his command, said not withstanding the achievements made so far, the country was still faced with serious security challenges, urging the policemen in the area to be alert to their responsibilities.

He said he was pleased that the police in collaboration with other security agencies had succeeded in putting behind the inglorious past years of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area. He stressed the need for police in the area to work closely with members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to ensure that events of the past years when residents of the state, particularly Aba, did not sleep with their two eyes closed, never returned.

He warned policemen in the area against extortion, saying any policeman who would not cue in to the new order should leave, adding that the force was under going transformation. Aisabor commended the complimentary role of members of the PCRC to the police in the area and thanked them for the perimeter fence of the division’s premises. Christian Kpatuma, the divisional police officer (DPO), Eastern Ngwa Police Division told the commissioner that his division introduced several crime fighting strategies to check the increasing crime rate in the area.

He said the task of policing the area, which shared boarder with Akwa Ibom State, was enormous and pleaded for the posting of more policemen and provision of patrol vehicles to the division. Eze Walton, transition committee chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area and Onyekachi Ogorji, chairman, PCRC, Eastern Ngwa, commended the commissioner for the good works he had been doing since his posting to Abia State.

They said last year was the first in many years people from the area would celebrate Christmas under a peaceful atmosphere and pledged to work closely with the police.
