Tragedy struck the oil city of Warri in Delta State yesterday as five persons lost their lives in a tricycle accident, which occurred along the ever-busy expressway in the metropolis. Daily Sun gathered that the incident occurred when the tricycle was hit by a trailer, which had earlier run into seven other vehicles in the traffic jam. The incident resulted in the instant death of the passengers and driver of the tricycle.
Daily Sun gathered that the victims had their hands and fingers cut off. “We have never witnessed such incident before. In fact, this is the first time such a terrible accident is occurring since the introduction and the ban on Okada took effect from November 1,” said sympathizers at the scene. However, a similar incident occurred a forthnight ago when two tricycles had a head-on collision, in which the passengers were injured.
Meanwhile, the police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have beefed up security around the ever-busy expressway-Ughelli round about and other adjoining areas. Investigation revealed that the measure was taken to decongest traffic hold-ups and ease unnecessary tension as the Yuletide was fast approaching.
