3 killed as Fulani, Berom clash again in Plateau

From MARIAM ALESHINLOYE-AGBOOLA

Fulanis and the Beroms have again returned to the battlefield as three persons have again been killed in two attacks carried out by the two groups in Barakin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Information gathered revealed that three Beroms who were on a motorcycle were on the way to Rakun village on Sunday evening were attacked by gunmen suspected to be Fulanis at about 7.30 pm.

Two of them who were already by Rakun Junction when the attack took place, were killed instantly and the remaining one escaped with injuries. On reaching the village and relating the incident, youths of the area regrouped and unleashed vengeance on the Fulani settlement close by leading to the death of a Fulani man. His body was discovered Monday morning. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abu, confirmed the killing of the three persons.

It was learnt that the Fulani who were claiming innocence of the earlier attack were threatening to go into fullscale war with the Beroms in the area and this had forced some natives of Barakin Ladi to flee their homes. However, as at press time, the situation had been brought under control as security agents had been deployed to the area. Meetings were being held between the two groups to prevent further breakdown of order.
