Kidnap gang leader’s mansion discovered in Delta

•Four suspects arrested by Lagos police over abduction of ex-minority leader and son

From Ngozi Uwujare, Ibadan

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Lagos State police command has discovered a mansion suspected to belong to alleged kidnapping kingpin, Abanara (other names withheld).

The magnificent mansion on 15B Fokade Street, Okuatata, Effurun, Ugboro, stunned the SARS operatives, when they made the startling discovery. The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, told Crimewatch that Abanara (aka million)  and his gang had been declared wanted   over the kidnapping of former Lagos State House of Assembly  Minority Leader, Hon. Taofeek Adeniyi and his son in Lagos this year and taken  to Delta. Manko said that the command had successfully arrested four suspects; Raymond, Joel, Phillip and Osanmor (all first names withheld).

He said that  Osanmor sponsored them for kidnapping and masterminded the abduction of  the lawmaker and his son. He noted that the  kidnappers demanded N30million   from the Adeniyi family but they were able to collect N4milion. They collected it only for them to  hold on to his son who brought the money. He said  another huge money was paid before Adeniyi’s  son was released after being held hostage for two weeks.

Manko said that  the officer-in-charge of  SARS, Abba Kyari (SP), mounted surveillance on the house of the gang leader in Effurun. “We have four of kidnappers in our custody and they confessed that the mansion belonged to their gang leader and when we eventually  struck, the gang leader, Abanara, escaped  and we arrested  a member of the gang who always sponsored them anytime they wanted to carry out their operation.”

The name of the  suspect is Osanmor who told Crimewatch that “I am  part of the gang  that participated  in the kidnapping  of former Minority Leader of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeniyi  and took him to Sapele. “I always gave out my  money to my gang which they  usually used to carry out the assignment sometimes, I gave out the sum  of N100,000. “Also, it was Abanara who is our gang leader and we usually called him after carrying out our operations, we used to share the money,” he said.

Another suspect, Raymond also said: “I am a member of the gang that kidnapped Hon. Adeniyi and my major role  was  provision of cars for the operation,” he said. CP Manko said that the police have  declared  total war on kidnappers in the state. He also said that the command was still investigating the case.

On the mansion which the gang leader built, he said: “We have declared Abanara wanted, promising that he will soon be arrested.”

Pull this house down. All these hungry lawyers should stop defending these terrorists because it could be their turn to be kidnaped tomorrow. National Assembly should enact a law that stipulates 10 years imprisonment with no option of fine.

  11. Benjamin December 13, 2012 at 5:16 am

They police cannot destroy the mansion when they collected bribe and let the gang leader go free. Don’t u see that report deliberately withheld the full names of the kidnappers. That should tell you that even the press have been corrupted too. Can you imagine the New York Times or any other reputable news media in the world protecting the names of kidnappers and murderers? Only in Nigeria! “Name Withheld” my foot!

    • Lotima December 13, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Police knew about the kidnapers’ activities, and they are part of the sharing formula. The Gang leader is under police protection, so his identity and whereabout is been protected.

All the way from Lagos to Delta state, thanks to the commissioner of police, Lagos state and the SARS for the good work. More effort should be intensified to ensure the immediate arrest of the gang leader. I wish the SARS good luck.

  26. steve December 13, 2012 at 11:31 am

why not Sun news show us the mansion . story -story you never know Nigerian with fake report

  27. waka waka December 13, 2012 at 11:33 am

    good job.

  28. Chief Wali Ogbeifun December 13, 2012 at 12:31 pm

This story is a fallacy. Everything about it is a sham and the police knows they are not telling any story but serving what they want the public to believe. There is no such address in Effurun. They should go a step further by putting up the picture of the mansion if their story is true. Definitely the mansion is in a neighbourhood where people live.

  29. Chief Wali Ogbeifun December 13, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Nigeria is a very huge joke.

  30. Emilistic December 13, 2012 at 1:42 pm

just as rivers state has enacted a law to sentence to any kidnaper to death, Lagos and other states should do the same. somebody will work hard for his income just to be kidnapped by some criminal bastards.

  31. BASIL MAPUTO. December 13, 2012 at 2:31 pm

I DONT TRUST AND BELIEVE THE LAGOS STATE POLICE. THE SAME POLICE WHO IS ACCUSING MR JONATHAN OKOLI ( A MARKET LEADER AND CLEAN BUSINESS MAN) OF ATTEMPTED MURDER, ILLEGAL POSSESION OF FIREARMS ETC. ALL BECAUSE OF MARKET POLITICS. THE SAME JONATHAN WHO MIRACULOUSLY ESCAPED AN ASSASINATION ATTEMPT SOME TIME THIS YEAR BY SOME POWERFUL PEOPLE WHO HAVE INTREST IN THEIR AGUIYI IRONSI SHOPPING CENTRE. JONATHAN HAS BEEN HELD IN CUSTODY FOR CLOSE TO 3 MONTHS NOW WITHOUT BAIL. I WEEP FOR NIGERIA.

IM OKAY, LET THEM FEEL THE HEAT SO THAT THEY WILL NOT SET THE CRIMINAL FREE AGAIN.

  47. humphrey December 13, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Mr. IG, how many of your cops are criminally connected to all these kidnappings?
The answer to this question is important as people feel that kidnapping will stop in this country the day you start to dismiss (with ignominy)/expose those that are connected to these crimes.
Again, train and or re-train your DPOs and their DCOs in all our communities. If they are competent and dedicated, there will be no kidnapping in the country – except political-crimes. Any crime they support will not go away. Take it or leave it.

  48. Chekwube December 13, 2012 at 10:40 pm

The security operatives should have infiltrated and disorganised this cell before now,I wonder what the numerous security/CID’S operatives does on a daily basis, sign for duty I guess then go off to wherever they like, the country is simply in a mess.

@sam God bless u for that comment @ man of the people your answer is so sweet thank you. Some idiots here don’t even have the ability to read nd understand where the house is located, some are shouting fashola others are calling uduaghan to pull their head down Nonsence. How many of the big time political thief (s)’s houses have they pull down in the past years. That house shud b left alone.

  53. newman December 14, 2012 at 8:14 am

Fashola cannot pull down the building. The mansion is in Sapele, Delta State. The only person that can pull down the building is Delta State Government, and I am inclined to believe that the government of Delta has hand in some of this kidnapping. Remember during the Ibori time, any kidnapping was being negotiated by government officials and the current Governor was one of the negotiators based on his duties at that time. The Uduangha should enact a law like in Anambra State that will deal routelessly with Kidnappers which includes, execution of kidnappers, and destruction of all their properties and belongings.
