Kalu calls for 38 states

Former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu yesterday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure the creation of two more states in the South to balance the Nigerian equation. Dr. Kalu made the call against the backdrop of cries of marginalization which continued to rock the embattled South-east. According to Kalu,”we are talking of equity. With the present 36 states structure, the North enjoys 19, while the South has 17. To strike a balance, two states should emerge from the South to give Nigeria 38 states, and also achieve a 19\19 balance.”

He called on the President to send an Executive Bill to the Senate to correct the anomaly. “We may not have to go through all the long haul of Constitutional grammar. This is a national emergency. The South-east must get another state, and one from the South-south, possibly Anioma, from the Old Mid-west, “the ex-governor added. On the need for fairplay, Kalu said,”at Amalgamation in 1914,Nigeria was made up of North and South. The Richards Constitution of 1946 divided Nigeria into three regions, one in the North, two down South. This went on to Independence in 1960. By 1963, when the First Republic came,

The Midwest region was created to make it three in the South, one in the North. General Yakubu Gowon quickly balanced it when he came up with 12 states in 1967. Six up, six down. No victor, no vanquished. However, General Murtala Mohammed changed all that shortly before he died in 1976.Kalu continued: “Things got so lopsided under Mohammed who added seven states to Gowon’s 12 to make 19.The North, for the first time, overtook the South at 10-9.Besides, of the new states, four of the governors were from the North, while three were Southerners. The impication was that, out of 19 governors under him, the North produced 11, South eight. It meant a lot, because even under Gowon, six of the 12 governors [East Central State Administator inclusive], were form the South.

When Mohammed took over in 1975,seven of the Governors came from the North, leaving the South with five,”he recalled. Kalu explained that Igbo interest was paramount in the exercise, arguing that even Chief Obafemi Awolowo believed Nigeria needed more states as far back as 1947.”Two new states cannot wait, they cannot be too many. Afterall, Chief Awolowo in his book: ‘Path to Nigerian Freedom’, called for 40 states in 1947.Today,the Igbos are not just crying for freedom, they are crying for living space. It was like state creation was a Civil War tool, today we are in 2012,a whole 42 years gone. Let the nation rise up against injustice.”

This is an urgent call that deserves immediate consideration today. With the application of common sense,I think Dr. Kanu’s argument and formular should be embraced.

It behooves me to let everyone here know that Ndigbo are (call it Biafra or Ndigbo Republic) not part of Nigerian Republic, but people attached to the Nigerian nation in other to make Nigeria Creative, industrious, and to make her economy copious. But, it is a pity that us (Ndigbo) fail to understand that we caused all these nonsense by selling our birthright to this Nation (Nigeria) full of beasts. We fail to understand that we (Ndigbo) fought and collected this nation from the British, and now the half-wits are controlling it and the worst confiscate Ndigbo like a property.
I want to remind Ndigbo that the Nigerian Stock exchange (NSE) among others were instituted by Ojukwu the father of Late Ikemba Odimegwu Ojukwu, i just don’t want to go far, but have to let you know that Ndigbo are just but ‘use and drop or rather throw away’ in the eyes of Nigerian Government. It is also pertinent to remind you that no body performed well or repels the ministries of Nigerian Government like Ndigbo, NAFDAC was repelled by Prof. Akunyili, later rebranded ministry of information and communication. Nigerian Government has never had a faithful and vibrant president of NSE like Onyiuke, also Soludo was a saviour of CBN (where a vampire now governs), the world recognized and the best and most powerful Financial minster in Nigeria is Ngozi Iweala, what of Prof (Engr.) Bert Nnaji, and many other Angels. After using many of them to repel a ministry, the next thing is to order them to resign or be sacked, what a pity?
I squall with pains here owing to the type of people we call politicians in Igboland, people who don’t care about what their people are going through, seeing the injustice against Ndigbo. We have loosed Trillions of Naira owing to inequality of States with other Zones, we have been denied of the sit of presidency, we are been killed on daily basis either by Hausa/Fulanis’ in the North or by men on uniform (Soldiers or Police) here in Igboland. When Helmet for Okadas came out, it was forced on Ndigbos who only obeyed it, while many road safety officers and Police were killed in the North when they tried to enforce it there. And at the end Helmet was not used in the north. Northerners are permitted to use or move with guns, daggers etc, but prohibited in Igboland.
It is easy as ABCD to get Biafran Republic and as well easy as 123 to get a president of Nigeria from Igboland only if all these politicians starting from the five Governors would come together with one mind. Nobody have right to stop our goals, and let me use this opportunity to inform you that the Zionist group did not commit any crime and must be released with immediate effect, because keeping them there is a crime. Or if any person can prove to me any where both in Nigerian Constitution, Criminal Code Act, and Public Order Act, where people on procession without been armed nor with any form of weapon can be arrested, tried and prosecuted.

      • Tom December 3, 2012 at 4:14 am

But he is not more corrupt than Tinubu and Fashola that are milking Lagos dry. Tinubu when he became governor of Lagos was a pauper but today he’s worth $2 billion. Think about that.

        • kaydow December 3, 2012 at 11:52 am

HE IS NOT A PAUPER AS HE

What is obvious is that national assembly is not serious about creation of more states to balance the inequality in country . Justice must achieve but it matter of time ,igbo shall rise up again and take their position in political, economic, scio-cultural scenario in nigeria, we are the “rising sun”.

The ever-making sense OUK is @ it again. I support his arguments. But in the same light, I personally will root for the creation of more 4 states. 2 in the southeast, 1 in the southsouth and 1 in the north to make it a 20/20 for both north/south. Keep up the good works OUK!

  7. Comr Emeka December 3, 2012 at 4:53 am

Thank you Dr.Kalu for educating us and pointing out the injustices in our system. It is obvious the North is reaping where it had not sowed since 1975.It is time for real justice in Nigeria.

  9. Henro December 3, 2012 at 5:50 am

I concur with you Doc Orji. Gej, should do it as a matter of urgence. We can’t wait any longer. Thanks, OUK.

  10. Celeco December 3, 2012 at 5:59 am

With the creation of this states, equity and justice is actualised remaining Marginalization. The abokis are milking this country dry. I support the creation of Anioma and Adada State from the south-south and South Eastern regions responsibly. OUK , u are our man of the moment.

    • Alhaji Onyeike December 4, 2012 at 2:32 am

Sometimes even self-serving statements make sense. They would be more credibility in his statements if this Okija monk did not have an ulterior motive. Nevertheless, he is right on the issue of justice. I am surprised at how the sophisticated peoples of the south let us get away with so much. I am not complaining though. But in the spirit of fairness and for the good of this thing called Nigeria, I think the states should be collapsed to 6 regions. You can label them states if you please. Chikana, that would cut down the cost of government drastically. Ras-pect

  11. Dele Odugbemi December 3, 2012 at 6:09 am

@Tom, you misfired when you said Tinubu was a pauper when he took over in 1999 as Lagos state governor, Tinubu was a rich young man as back as 80s, he played prominent role financially in the SDP that produced MKO Abiola, he was a Senator then and when the Abacha was haunting the political activities and especially NADECO, Tinubu single handedly financed some of the exile of NADECO Members to London UK, Canada and USA and used his money to take care of them until the end of Abacha when some of them returned back to Nigeria to continue the struggle to wrest power from Military headed by Abdusalam Abubakar. You may ask people like Dele Momodu of Ovation, Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state, Naval Commodore Nduibusi and others too numerous to mention here. I think is not proper who was rich since 1980s to become poor in 2012, unless if such a person made his money from drugs or some other unthinkable crimes.. We should not condemn innocent people because we dont like them.
Kalu raised very fundamental issue that should be addressed because Nigeria is facing this horrible state because of large scale of injustices across the board which the Leaders from the whole Southern Nigeria should fight for but they wont do that because of the benefits accruing to them from the injustices.
But Kalu formula to give the two states to South/South and South East is another injustice, the South West is the second largest tribe in Nigeria according to Census and it is only in South West you still have two Provinces in same state, such is Ogun state that consists of both defunct Abeokuta Province and Ijebu Province, while some of such Provinces have been divided into two or three States in Nigeria, so also Ibadan the former capital of Western region and largest city in West Africa deserves to be a state like Kano, Sokoto, and Enugu, otherwise Kalu’s outcry will still look like tribal course.

This is one of the reason why the northern politicians do’nt want somebody from south east to become president of nig, bcos of their marginalisation and injustice agaist igbos they swore with their great grand fathers and mothers that an igboman wil neva be president of nig, but God pass the north. Another of their target is to make nig Islamic country, Abacha died in course of trying to achieve that aim. Selfish interest.

    • Namadi Stephen December 3, 2012 at 11:33 am

check out your south east. What has any of your governors achieved from 1999 to date. Is this how they want to be Presidents. We did not say they’re bad, but from your petitions, we had no choice than to agree that your governors are not doing anything but ‘stealing’. Nigeria can not afford such again.

      • Ezinwanne December 3, 2012 at 12:11 pm

  16. Chief Akpaniko December 3, 2012 at 7:07 am

Dr Kalu spoke well. The real issue with Nigeria is not state creation. Issues of corruption, mismanagement/diversion of resourses, employment, education, infant mortality, decay infracture. How can we continue with a situation where political office holders become billionaires while the rest die of poverty? Create 1000 states without addressing core issue mentioned here is a time bomb that will lead to a thing worst than Boko haram.

The problem here is that the Governors of the Southern Nigeria are not evn united. Corruption is tearing them apart and shuting their mouth up.
Another thing is oda tribes alwz trying to sentimentally tribalise anything said by an Igbo man wether good or bad. If u are a reasonable person you wil kno that this does not only apply to SE, and/or SS but something that shld be taken up by the entire SW, SS, & SE states. This can equitably make us be at par wt d North either by making it 20/20 or 19/19. God help Nigeria. Nda Orji dalukwa 4 creating awareness once again. Igadiririririr!!!

What did Uzor Orji Kalu do as a governor in Abia for 8 years if not to enrich himself with money he may never use in his life time. Any sensible Nigerian should start thinking of how to reduce the size of this madness we call government that we are running. Kalu does not have anybody’s interest at heart. His interest is purely selfish. Am surprise he didnt ask for one state for himself

  29. Stine Chykee December 3, 2012 at 11:13 am

My people you see why North are always united than the South in Nigeria.Wen the issues of that Nigeria is being discursed North will bury their defferencies and unite together to get wat they wanted from Nigeria becouse they knows wat they will benefited wen they unite together but as for the South it always haunt witch and sabotage from the Yorubas against the Igbos and as a result of that South will miss their opportunities to the North.Yorubas let me ask you people just a question did they send you people against the Igbos wen a matter that will benefit not only Igbos but the entirely South being champion by an Igbo man?.We all know that Orji Kalu made a great point wen he said that additional two state should be created in the South so as par it wit the North that has presently 19 state with only one state in the East so as make it just six while another in the Midwest prefereble Anioma state and now the Yorubas in their selfish, bias and sentimental atitude against Igbos are now criticising Orji Uzor Kalu. Capt Ben,I Will Kill Again,Kola Amodu may God have mercy for you people that brings bad names and disgrace to the Yoruba race.Wat will Orji Uzor Kalu will benefit from his selfless services for we Southern Nigeria that he hasnts benefited. You Yorubas that want the head of Orji Kalu do you think that your so call god in the person of Bola Tinubu is better than him wen him Bola was the governor of Lagos?we all knows that Bola was the leader of Alaye in the Lagos Island before he become governor and he has nothing then but now he has enmass the wealth of the Lagos and even his godson Fashola has started following his foot steps

  30. kola amodu December 3, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Stine u’re a very big fool if u can opened ur watering mouth n ask Bola Tinubu’s era to be compare to that of ur useless Kalu. U see nobody from south west will ever sit in a place where by south east progress will be disturb, de fact stil remain that de likes of Kalu can not n will never be at de front of people who will champion southern Nigeria wants. U got my point. In de south west, once we realised u a fool will immediately stop following or listen to that same person, cos we all knows that a leopard will never change it’s position. That is de different btw Yorubas n ur igbo. In Igbo land anything goes irspective of their background but it is not de case in south west. U ever heard de name call “Babatope” b4 Yorubas thought he is a man of honour but de moment we realised his a joker, we stopped given him de time, now he does not command any respect in Yoruba land again. Know what i mean. Why do u like to recycle loosers all de time in igbo land? Is it cos u don’t have more of men n women of substance?. That is why “yoruba”s will always be de leading light in this nation . We all know tha igbo uses Yorubas achievment4 as their yardstick to measure their own progress. Igbos should at least give Yorubas de respect u all know we deserved. Yorubas dose not hate ibos in fact de reversed is de case. U got it

Issues like this are very important, but most of us here takes it as a joke. According to one of our brother who happened to be in the house says that creation of state is like puring water on a stone. I doubted him when he say’s such, because he has already for-see his failure. When someone see’s that he cannot do anything in future he started ealier to complain. What Orji said was one of the major problem this Country is facing and no one wants to look into it. They said we are in democracy and injustics are ruling. Since the house are finding it difficult to give us more state, we are now looking unto the president himself to do just that for us. Afteral we voted him in with over 200% vote. Where is his veto? must he wait national Assemble in everything? I dont know what their plans are but whatever it is they should know that 2015 is around the corner. We cant be followers forever.

  33. obi. c December 3, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Good idea but how many people believed him on these issues, it is ok but his previous ways is a big clog against him. Orji is a good man/ material for Presidency but IGBOS are not supporting their people to move up polictically in Nigeria set-up.

  34. Stine Chykee December 3, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Namadi stephen your not ashamed of yourself by comparing Northern Governors achievement with that of South East Governors wen its obvious that your region is already a terrorist of Boko hara infected area and upon the North have ruled this countres for many uncountable years but you people were still far backward with other tribes.Shame to you North and your leaders.Namadi Stephen you who is a Northern Christian hope you and your other Northern Christian brethren are really enjoying the wrate of your muslims brothers, fools

  35. Haruna Sako December 3, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Orji kalu is not qualified to be president of this country because what is talking about creation of new state is purely sentiment. What should be the criteria of creation of new state? Is this base on geographical equality balance of the country or population? Someone can even imaging of what he has said. we should not go to the process of constitution of nigeria rather than equality balance between the north and south. This man is not qualified to be president of the country because this is what he will do if he get there. He should be throw into dustbin.

Hahahaha,i can see that some tribes in Nigeria like Yorubas and Housas are now afraid of the additional state from the South East and South South by Orji Uzor Kalu and people like Saka Haruna and Kola Amodu have started loosing sleepless night and they have started nursing fear becouse Orji Uzor Kalu is now in the fore front for the Igbos affairs. Its now obvious that Yorubas and Housas are afraid of Igbo man becoming the president of Nigeria and this has manufested in atitude of Saka Haruna and Kola Amodu.Yorubas and Housas will hear am wen Igbo man become the president of Nigeria and person is no other person but Orji Uzor Kalu so my fellow Igbo brothers now that we have known the reason why Yorubas and Housas have been continuesly blackmailing the effort of Orji Uzor Kalu becouse they fear that he is the only Igbo man who can withstand the forces of the Housas and Yorubas please my Igbo brothers lets unite together and support Orji Uzor Kalu and am ready to put myself in the fore front.Contact me on:+2348063325326,+2348185774858

No doubt, orji uzo Kalu is very knowledgeable about the politics of Nigeria, and I support his call for balancing the structure-Mohammed-we all know is a bigot-a hater of anything other than his own-thankfully-he didn’t stay long enough to have caused more damage. OUK-I pray you find your place in history once again-we all loved you until i saw Aba town, and evirons(I lived in the North)-and I wondered how such a gifted leader found it so hard to change the lives of his sown people-nevertheless, your thoughts show you Love your country-as you think all the time..if not-you can’t produce such a masterpiece-Well done!

    ‘YOU WILL KILL AGAIN’
We know that you will kill your mother, your father, all the members of your wretched family, and then you will kill yourself to cap it up. You are a miserable soul, and so shall it be to you.

  43. Big Joe December 3, 2012 at 4:29 pm

    YRUBAS! YORUBAS!!
I call you to liberate yourselves from the fulani oligarchy.
Your town Ilorin has been in the hands of the Hausa / Fulani empire for over 100 years. Shame on you bloody cowards. You only exhibit your stupid bravado in on-line internet commentries.
Your major city ILORIN, is eternaly in the hands of the fulani caliphate. If your god Awolowo could not liberate you from the clutches of the danfodio caliphate, and Obasanjo could not either, who else will. Tinubu is now licking the shoes of Buhari in other to be relevant, wait and see what will happen to him.
Mind you, your Abiola dined and wined them, and they properly used him. Immediately he raised his head to contest for power, they dealt him the final blow. If you want to be counted among the braves of Nigerian ethnic nationalities, go and liberate your city, and instal a yoruba Oba. If not dont ever compare yourselves with the great Biroms, the TIVS, and the Katafs of the middle belt, who had resisted and fought the fulanis for centuries without without giving them an inch of their soil.

  44. Stine Chykee December 3, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Now i can see that my people Igbos are now waking up from the usual blackmails and sabotage Yorubas and Housas has always put us into many years, they instill in us that Igbos dont love themselves and that Igbos dont have king but all this was a way to creat disunity among the Igbos and even their kinsmens South South and even the Middle Belt but your plans have failed becouse we Igbos is more united than you Yorubas and Core North. Now i want to use this medium to ask South East,South South and Middle Belt,Kaduna to unite and fight this God forsaking Yorubas and Core North becouse we know their motives now

  45. Eaves dropper December 3, 2012 at 5:11 pm

I like this pieace bcos it is capable of exposing the fools among men.I have already seen some guys falling into the group of fools. To me,i prefere creation of job opportunities to states.Creation of states encourages disunity and facilitates corruption as new senators that will be representing themselves and their family members will be involved.

  46. Eaves dropper December 3, 2012 at 5:34 pm

@BIG JOE and STINE CHYKEE,it seems as if your health is deteriorating. Was your god Odumegwu Ojukwu able to liberate you.Now that you man(vice senate president) in national assembly has told you he cannot give you new state i wonder how you people will succed.Ẹ kan nsọrọ bi ẹniti ko lọgbon lori.Ẹyin ole jaguda wonyi.Ẹjọọ ọga yin UZO KALU ṣi nbẹ ni ọdọ EFCC.Ole ni gbogbo yin.

  49. Prophet of God. December 3, 2012 at 6:52 pm

Israel was in Arabic country Egypt for 430yrs.they were under slavery and was forced to produce the bricks to build Egypt but when they cried aloud God heard them, raised Moses who performed wonders before stubborn pharoah and Egyptians who wouldnt let go and God delivered them with a mighty Hand.today the EGYPT WHO WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WORLD POWER LOST THEIR STAID TILL TODAY.WHERE IS EGYPT TODAY AND WHERE ARE ISRAEL TODAY,U CAN SEE THE MARGIN.I AM SURE U WILL SPEND UR LAST CENT TO BE IN ISRAEL BUT IF ANY ONE GIVES U FREE VISA TO EGYPT U WILL REJECT IT.WE WILL BE FREE ONE DAY.

Thank God that these useless tribal empty cans making d hell noise here are not the ones incharge of state creation nor will they even be allow to air their views. Additional more state(s) is(are) on the way 4 d SE. If you dnt like it you can all go to hell, nobody cares. ok?

As for the Big Bitch callIn himself ‘I wl kill again,’ it is actually “You wl die again.” Bcos you spiritually dead already, remaining Physical dead. And i guess you must ve finished killing ur generation, remaining to kill urself. 1St class IDIOT.

  51. tokan December 3, 2012 at 8:03 pm

Kalu is drunk, period. No argument based on merit.

  52. dattijo December 3, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Yes Tokan Kalu is hopeless and senseless looking for cheap popularity from his Igbo people and recognition by PDP south-south. Self centered, middle belt your true enemies are voicing out their agenda.

  53. Alhaji Onyeike December 4, 2012 at 2:41 am

“We have loosed Trillions of Naira owing to inequality of States with other Zones, we have been denied of the sit of presidency, we are been killed on daily basis either by Hausa/Fulanis’ in the North or by men on uniform (Soldiers or Police) here in Igboland.
It is easy as ABCD to get Biafran Republic and as well easy as 123 to get a president of Nigeria from Igboland only if all these politicians starting from the five Governors would come together with one mind.” Wow! This guy is on fire. What has he been smoking. This sounds like the drum of war. GEAJ are you taking note? Believe it or not, the next war will make the last look like a Boy scot jamboree. Justice is a prerequisite for sustainable peace. What are we waiting for? Are we just waiting for the time this Lugard’s experiment self distress, volcanically? Ras-pect

It’s funny, ppl write nonsence because they’r inside their huts typing nonsense. If d likes of kola amodu wer to be invited to address d public he wud end up disgracing himself n his yoruba tribe. There is no going bak in wat God has approved. Well,of course, state creation is jst 4d mean time,Nigeria wil soon split into 4. Let d Yorubas continue fooling themselves, BIAFRA has long had their flag, anthem, coat of arm n evn currency, NIGER DELTA heavily represented by d Ijaw Nation recently hoisted their flag n anthem on d 1st of Oct,NIGERIA wil b left 4d North. Such a pity 4d Yorubas who dnt hav any identity, they’ll simply join their Hausa brothers in Nigeria. Come 2014, d amalgamation of Nig of 1914(aft 100yrs) wil legitimately expire n all components of Nig can decide to live together thru a referandum. North East has already threatened to leave Nig if not for T.Y Danjuma who aborted d plans because of his oil wells in Rivers,Delta,Edo n Bayelsa. Yorubas,u are on your own.

Good morning my follow Nigeria youth’s, most of us condemd Orji Kalu as a criminal or 419 or drug pusher fine u may be right but change is wthat dey say is constant, ask ur self am i holy?. if Kalu is as bad as most of you people are saying, he may not come out publicilly to speak or make a caption like dis. he Kalu is not bad as you people talk and he is not talking of being President as for now. for me equal balance he is right, beacuse it’s bring peace in all level, the trouble we are having in Nigeria now is lack of equal balance. we youth of this Country we have to chang our mindset to Good beacous we are going to take the charge of this country in due time. it is well with you Orji Kalu….
