•We’re solidly behind OUK –Bende youths
From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba
A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Orji Uzor Kalu Youths (OUKY) said it has uncovered plans by some officials of the Abia State Government and some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to force the PDP local government and ward chairmen to stage a protest against the return of the former governor of the state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu to the PDP.
This is even as another group, the Bende Youths Forum (BYF) said it is solidly behind Kalu in his bold step of returning to the PDP, stressing that they would no longer fold their arms to watch the former governor being attacked or molested by anybody.
In a release, an official of OUK Youths, Gideon Obi Maduewesi said the forced protest being sponsored by some people in government and few party executives was as usual meant to deceive Abians and Nigerians as a whole into believing that Kalu was no longer wanted in the party he is a founding member.
According to the release: “Instead of planning ways to move Abia forward, these men are interested in evil and wicked ways to deceive Abians, who are happy that OUK has returned to PDP.” While calling on security agencies to take note of this, the release advised Abians to be aware and not to take them (the sponsors) serious, but to demand for dividends of democracy that had eluded them over the years.
In another development, Youths of Bende, the local government of the former governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, under the aegis of Bende Youths Forum (BYF) had expressed delight over the re-entry of their son and immediate past governor of the state into the PDP. Disclosing this in an interview with Daily Sun, the Chairman of BYF, Kalu Nkem said the development was what they’ve waited for so long.
He stated that with Kalu’s re-entry, the party would not only be rebuilt in Abia State, but in the whole of the South East geo-political zone where he said the former governor had remained a household name.
Nkem said it was unfortunate that some people from the area initially tried to stop Kalu from coming back to the party he co-founded, stressing that those people were not true sons of Bende. “It is unfortunate that there were some people who went behind to collect some little money and said they do not want Kalu in the PDP.
But I must say that those people are not true sons of Bende. “I am saying this because no Bende man will ever hurt his brother and we will not start it now because of petty politics.
Before now, I used to think that politics has to do with conscience, but what happened in recent past has made me to understand that our so called political leaders in the state and Bende in particular have no conscience.
“Majority of us are firmly in support of Kalu’s re-entry into PDP and we are asking that the authorities in the state should stop using the army and police to harass us. “Youths of Bende are solidly behind OUK and we want to use this opportunity to warn that we will no longer fold our arms while anybody insults or attacks him, enough is enough.”
