Gbonigi, Falae, others accuse Jonathan of marginalising Yoruba

Leading Yoruba leaders under the aegis of the Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) have accused President Goodluck Jonathan of marginalising the Yoruba race in his administration Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State yesterday, they said specifically that of the 12 most strategic positions in government, the Yoruba was not represented at all.

According to the former secretary to government of the federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, who was the main speaker, there was a flagrant disobedience of the Nigeria constitution sworn to by the president. He said the committee set up by the president in October 2011 to review and work on the appointment of board members of federal statutory corporations and agency had no Yoruba person.

Falae observed that the few Yoruba in government held insignificant positions, as they had no representative in key offices, saying those who were lucky to be in offices were facing serious humiliation. Apparently putting the blame at the doorstep of the president, he reasoned that though some of the 12 key positions in government were elective, adding that Jonathan could have appointed Yoruba into some of them to reflect federal character.

Speaking further, the former SGF said the issue cut across economic, judiciary and other sectors. In the judiciary, for instance, he said no Yoruba was heading any of the judicial arms of government or any agency responsible for criminal investigation and prosecution. “The judiciary now seems to have been calculatingly structured to keep the Yoruba out of the position of chief justice of the federation for the foreseeable future, even though there has been no Yoruba occupant for the last 26 years.

“This is in spite of the leading position of Yoruba in the legal profession in the country,” Falae said Also speaking, leader of the forum, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi and Senator Tony Adefuye called for concerted effort among Yoruba to remedy the situation. Dignitaries at the event included former health minister, Prof. Adenike Grange; former Lagos State deputy governor, Mrs Kofo Akerele –Bucknor; Moshood Salvador, Senator Bode Olajumoke, Senator Femi Okunrounmu and Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa.

I,m really disappointed to see someone like OLU FALAE to address the president in this manner. GEJ, has been criticised so much in the hands of these professional number one rumour mint people in Africa. Your people were marginalized just only because they were not holding Choice positions as ascribed by you. As a well respected elderly statesman, you allowed yourself to be used to alter such high level racial comment that will not do the nation any good. You mentioned judiciary for instance as an area your tribe held sway, but you were there when Salami messed up the rulings that came to him. The judge that ruled against Bode Gorge of 85 billion naira NPA fund and 27 billion naira pension fraud that gave paltry sentence to the criminals were a yoruba man true or false? Nigeria has decided to move forward, GEJ is among the new generation where good reforms were made to be complied to the latter, your so called federal character had so many times drew the nation backward from independence. As educationist you are, how do you turns to promote incompetence? Look at the calibre of men and women that had such ignorable meeting with you, are they men of substance? Promoting quarter system other than competence had coursed serious brain drain in the nation, are you shying away from this reason(s) ? Stop gathering with sycophants next time, ok! OBJ, mounted your people in various key positions for good 8yrs in office, even though your people did not cast their votes for him still they were fixed in powerful positions, did you and your August parliamentarians dialogue otherwise? Pls be very much careful, no tribe is made to be a stooge over her neighbour in Nigeria, this statement is quiet unbecoming of an elderly statesman like you. I expected your person to champion professionalism in all the days of your life.

Why should u be surpirsed. When OBJ was there and gave them all important positions, he could not make noise even though they never voted for OBJ.

Yourbas are nite snake and u can never trust them. They are blinded with tribal sentiments.

They are not in first, second, third and fourth positions, so what do u expect them to say. They are maginalised and dat is why ACN are always ganging up against jonathan.

Let them go to hell. They are not trusted at all.

  2. Awelu February 7, 2013 at 4:06 am

After they have all eaten part of the cake, they are crying marginalisation.

  9. ISEE February 7, 2013 at 7:00 am

And Olu Falae aspired to rule this Country…Nigeria… thank God he did not succeed…TRIBALIST

  10. Say the truth February 7, 2013 at 7:26 am

I think everybody has right to voice his concern on any matter,no hatred pls.Yorubas had never denied or pretended to love a non tribalic system in govt.So why hate them?instead,we the non tribal champions suffer most of the blunder cos we refused to adapt and be igbo-centric in everything.Igbo-centrism will help break the unholy matrimony b4 its times’ up.

  11. Dele Odugbemi February 7, 2013 at 7:50 am

@Chidi, the hatred will kill you and your group, sons of Chimpanzee.

  12. Kooly February 7, 2013 at 9:25 am

It’s ibo time!! Falae should not bother himself yorubas are not mown to whine and complain like pregnant women like the yibos. The time is just a while away when we will teach this kobokobo Jonathan the lesson of his life…yibos, we will remind you then when you start your typical whining of when azikiwe Ebele was drinking apeteshi at aso rock

  15. BONNY February 7, 2013 at 10:45 am

For a person of Olu Falea&even Bishop Gbonigi to be in the congregation where this type of discussion was held is very embarrassing&demeaning. We have not been able to occupy prestigious positions in the world affairs going by Falae’s complaints,we enthrone incompetent just to satisfy some few. There is no maginalisation of any kind now.Obj was there for 8yrs& everything for the yorubas at the expense of tribes.Falae should emulate Sonyinka who have risen above tribal politics.Sonyika does not talk for talking sake, whenever he talks, look deep u wll see the reason.Bishop Gbonigi ur call to duty knows no boundary, get the lost souls for GOD.Leave materialistic souls to continue in their insatiable demand for earthly kingdom.Let’s sit up my country men.

  16. Akins February 7, 2013 at 11:31 am

Igbo’s cry marginalisation, Hausa’s scream marginalisation and now Yoruba!!!.
Are we really talking marginalisation or are we talking about individual pockets.
Politicians are the ones that say they are invited to come and eat.
Are you actually saying that Yoruba’s are being given inferior food.
I thought those that are there are Nigerians too…and when the Yoruba’s were not marginalised what did they do for Yorubaland?
Go and zip your lips Mr Falae and stop agitating the masses with such careless comments

  17. Chairman February 7, 2013 at 12:06 pm

And this is supposed to be one nigeria

  18. Chairman February 7, 2013 at 12:07 pm

    UP “one nigeria”

  19. Tagbo February 7, 2013 at 12:14 pm

These are chronical tribalists speaking. These are evil men who instead of thinking of how to die to bring Nigeria together, and people think Nigeria, they can only open their evil eyes to see Yeruba in a nation of over 250 million people. All efforts at making Nigeria stronger together fail simply because men like this only contribute negatively, but even at that ,they recieve national honours. What criterial defines the role of elder statemen of a country? In a true nation, statements like this could send you to jail and you lose whatever national honour you have.Thats the kind of country i have in my mind. The yeruba man is a tribalist and are happy with it.

  20. Felly February 7, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Tagbo, are you a hypocrite? Can you die to bring even the Igbo together let alone Nigeria? You sound very cynical about the complaints of the Yoruba leaders. Some people don’t care what they say. They will still criticize them anyways. Cut out this negative stuff about the Yoruba of tribalism. Look at the Igbos all over the place. They even chase people in the local Yoruba communities off their businesses and fill the space. Do the Yoruba complain? Are Yoruba taking over the business spaces in the East as the Easterners do in the Yoruba parts of the country? It is a sin for you to accuse a people who have demonstrated their liberality and tolerance in every sense.

    • Mekus February 8, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Do you expect an Igboman to enter Ibadan with a Visa?

U must be stupid for not blaming those that Abandoned the Aburi Accord (Regional Government) just to steal the Niger delta resources (Awo and co).

  21. Owerri February 7, 2013 at 2:49 pm

@ Felly, why can,t you focuse on the subject matter? Who is chasing who out of his business enclave? Is it the Igbo,s that made your people to be of less enterprising in Nigeria nation? How many of your people had built his/her businesses in Igbo land and at same time was deprived of their business empire in Igbo land? Why can,t you dialogue constructively as a bonafide Nigerian? How does your comments interwoves to what Chief Falae was analysing on this theme of discussion or do you fell to be noticed on this forum?

    • Nigerian February 7, 2013 at 6:18 pm

You do know that most eastern states do not sell land to Yorubas. the tribalism that trives in eastern Nigeria is what is killing you, i am saying this from first hand experience.

  22. Chuks February 7, 2013 at 2:50 pm

Powerful lines from you! @ Owerri.

  23. Emmanuel Omeh February 7, 2013 at 5:27 pm

I’ve always said it and I will continue to say it, I can not insult Yoruba as a Nation because of some nobodys on this forum, there are a lot of reasonable Yorubas who understand the pivotal, commercial and unifying role of the IBO tribe in this polity called Nigeria, remove IBO from Nigeria all this ones running mouth can never coexist with other tribes, were will they start, first of all Lagos will shrink instantly, what am just telling us, even Great Britain and all the world powers are aware, can u make a concrete without cement, just 43 years after the worst orchestrated genocide/pongrom ever in the history of mankind adding the economic humiliation of abandonded property and 20 pounds worth of an average IBO man,let us assess every tribe in Nigeria from all ramification in all human endeavour, no tribe come close let alone matching the IBO tribe, it is not ordinary because whom GOD have blessed no one can curse no matter the gang up so who ever is crying marginalisation should seek GOD not Jonathan. HE alone can place positions and bless. IGBO kwenu! Umu CHINEKE

  24. Saka c February 7, 2013 at 6:19 pm

The yorubas are evil, they are not supose to be in govment, evil tribe, always want to intimidate others with their evil character, they (yoruba) conived with housa fulani and maginalised niger delterns and igbos for years and now just two years they have started filling the pains, fools.

  25. Odili February 7, 2013 at 7:17 pm

When OBJ dumped the East for eight yrs and more, you all kept mute; now you are champions of Nationalism.

  26. Peace Benson Nwaoruruaku February 7, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Olu Falae is talking because he feels marginalised. When his tribesman, OBJ dealt deadly blows to other tribes in well ochestrated witch hunts for 8 years, nobody heard his voice because they held all the aces and called the shots with him. Goodluck Jonathan is having headaches trying to turn this country around from the ruins that OBJ left it. When Falae arm-twisted Ogbonnaya Onu in the APP/AD alliance and contested for the presidency, it was not marginalisation. Shonekan from Yoruba land has been Head of Govt; giving the Yorubas two shots at the number one position, yet Falae is crying. We, of Igbo extraction would then bleed since we have never had such. The chicken eats corn, rice, swallows pebbles, drinks water etc; and complains of having no teeth; if she had teeth would she eat gold? Let her go and ask the cow that has teeth yet eats only grass.

  28. Mable February 9, 2013 at 11:16 am

Discrimination in nigeria! Dose it mean that the yorubas must be the one on top every time, while others are always below? God have mercy! Why do some pple always like to put their fellow men under their feet while they always want to be the babas all the time? I dn’t think we re one nigeria we re not!!
