The Deputy Managing Director and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr Femi Adesina, was yesterday honoured along with three other eminent Nigerians with the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Registry award.
The two other awardees are the immediate-past Head of Service of Ondo State, Mrs Kosemani Kolawole, the former vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Olufemi Bamiro and Mr Demiji Owofemi, Managing Director of Multi Trex Integrated Foods Plc.
Adesina, who is also the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, was unavoidably absent at the occasion but he was represented by The Sun Newspapers Bureau Chief for South-West, Mr Yinka Fabowale The awards were presented to the awardees at this year’s Registry annual lecture at the main auditorium of the institution.
In his address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Biyi Daramola said the institution was in the process of emerging as the African Regional Centre with support of the government of African countries and the World Bank. Prof. Daramola stated that the institution hosts the World Bank N1.2 billion grant for the centre of excellence in food production and food security.
He disclosed that the institution and Multi Trex Integrated Foods had entered into partnership with a view to involving in cocoa processing, export and for local consumption.
Daramola said the partnership would create an enduring mutually beneficial relationship between the university, Multi Trex and the end users. He stated that the institution was committed to conducting high impact research in food production, processing, packaging and storage.
The vice chancellor said the development was aimed at boosting the nation’s food production out-put, generating income for the institution and serving as training ground for the younger generation.
