The Sun football team led by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Chief Tony Onyima proved their mettle against a star studded Nollywood stars as they whitewashed the thespians 4-3 in a novelty match to mark the 10th anniversary of The Sun Publishing Ltd.
In the match played at the Astro Turf, Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, the team captain, Chief Onyima led by example as he converted a penalty kick to level scores for his side after the Nollywood stars had gone ahead in the early minutes of the half.
The actors came out and took control of the half as they led 3-1 at half time. Anticipating defeat, coach George Aluo of The Sun introduced new players in the second half. The substitutions worked out well for the team as Emma Njoku scored twice and provided an assist for the fourth goal to secure victory for The Sun team.
Nollywood stars received a trophy for their gallant display while The Sun team also picked up the gold colored giant trophy. The Sun team captain, Chief Tony Onyima won the award of the Most Valuable Player of the match.
