Ondo commissioner denies slapping director

From TUNDE RAHEEM, Akure Ondo

State Commissioner of Transport, Mr Nicholas Tofowomo has denied slapping a director in the Ministry of Works, Mr Monday Afeniforo over a trivial issue. The commissioner, who spoke through his press officer, Bisi Agboola said there was no truth in Afeniforo’s claim that Tofowomo slapped him during arguments.

The press officer alleged that when he approached the director over the issue, he denied the claim that the commissioner slapped him. He said during the purported argument, the commissioner politely told the director, who threw a handset at him to come back and apologise for insulting him but the director in turn frowned at the commissioner and left for his office. Agboola stated that the commissioner openly cursed himself to underscore his claim that he did not slap the director and asked his driver who witnessed the incident to bear him witness.

The press officer said it was some unscrupulous elements within the civil service that blew the incident out of proportion and the issue, according to him, was political. Agboola berated some civil servants and politicians for misinforming the press and the public, saying some people behind the scene were hell bent on denting the image of the commissioner. “It was a misconception of issue at the initial stage and some civil servants were just peddling falsehood. The commissioner did not slap or beat the director, “ Agboola stressed.

Why he didn’t call other witnesses instead of his driver. The commisioner should be fired fortwith.

If indeed the commissioner slapped the director, he needs to know that he will not hold that post forever, for power is forever transient. It will also be an indictment on Mimiko’s reputation if he holds on to his post.

THE TWO OF THEM i.e THE DIRECTOR AND THE COMMISSIONER SHOULD BE SACKED FOR CAUSING PUBLIC ATTENTION TO OFFICIAL INDISCIPLINE.
IF THE COMMISSIONER FEELS INSULTED BY HIS DIRECTOR, WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO IS TO ISSUE HIM QUERY AND NOT ARGUMENTS, BUT PROBABLY THE COMMISSIONER MAY HAVE ‘COMMIT’ TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE DIRECTOR, HE IS AFRAID TO DISCIPLINE THE DIRECTOR, OTHERWISE THE ‘SECRET’ WOULD BE LEAKED. MIMIKO, PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW.
