•Spend N1.3trn on aircraft
By PETER ANOSIKE
Nigerians have invested about N1.3 trillion in the acquisition of private jets in the last three years, according to the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV). The institute disclosed this in Lagos recently at an international seminar on plants and machinery valuation with focus on aircraft, oil and gas installations. The NIESV said that the number of privately-owned jets in the country has jumped from 50 in the last three years to 200
The coordinator of the seminar, Paul Osuji, said that because of time constraints and other factors, the number of private jets would continue to be on the increase. He said that the seminar was organized to train their members on plant and machinery valuation, noting that at times, people purchase properties without knowing their real worth. According to him, professionals in Estate Surveying and Valuation are trained to value aircraft before they are paid for and brought into the country.
Osuji said that they have valued most of the private jets that are plying the Nigerian airspace “We are mandated by our profession to constantly train and retrain our members. After the last Dana Airlines crash, a lot of attention had been drawn to the aviation sector. People now want to know the airworthiness of the aircraft they want to pay for or they want to fly in. That is why we organize this seminar and most often, we bring our colleagues from other parts of the world to come and share their knowledge with us.
We are the only profession that is authorized by law to place value on any property .We are professionally trained to value properties and there is a world of difference between assessing a machinery and placing value on it. When the engineers assess a machine, what they are trying to find out is its workability. That has nothing to do with the value of the machine .It is the surveyors and valuers that have the requisite knowledge as well as the expertise to place values on items,”Osuji said.
In his opening remarks, NIESV president, Emeka Eleh, said that it is only by constant training that the members could differentiate themselves from quacks. He said if the members become proficient in their professions, when outsiders deal with them and the quacks, they would have no cause to patronize the quacks.

Does acquisition of private jets add value to our economy?our people should learn to be prudent!
CRAP TALK
…in nigeria,it’s a game of WINNER-TAKES-ALL.No doubts,Rich men do rich things.Who cares?
I WILL BUY MY OWN JET VERY SOON. PLS WHEN I DO DON’T BE JEALOUS COS THESE JETS WERE MADE FOR HUMANS AND WE HAVE TO USE THEM BEFORE THEY GET OLD.
FOOLISHNESS. WHAT IS JET?
In Sha Allah,i would buy my own too very soon.2015 is at the corner, who knows what will happen then? ah,ah,ah…
Go slow on the roads now flyslow on the air ,where will the poor man walk in Nigeria ?the safety of air travell is in danger so the government must plan ahead. Why not use the jet money to repair our bad roads,so that the rich and the poor can both enjoy it.
WHAT’S OUR BUSINESS WIT D NUMBER OF AIRCRAFT WE ACQUIRE.STUPID SANUSI WILL NOT C THIS INSTEAD HE ADVISE THAT 50% OF CS SHOULD BE SACKED.
Phd holder’s going for trailler driving work interview in Dangote Companies, while some spent billions of dollar in ordinary aircraft what a shame. Nigeria is not a Country but a clan. Can you tell me how much Dangote used in starting up his Company?
My brother, there is a correction here. Nigeria is also not a clan becos a clan is efficiently organized. Nigeria is actually a crowd.
lolololololol
It’s uncompassionate and very shameful to note that some of the richest men in the world can be found in Nigeria, especially Christian religious leaders, while Nigeria remains one of the poorest communities in the world with aboundant resources.
There is nothing bad for renowed and sincere Pastors to own a private Jet to enable them tour within and outside the country for crusades to spread the gosple of God all over the World as God commanded. However, it will be out of place when such Pastor own a jet while some of his members are dying for hunger and needed help to start life. Again, before buying the jet, many things should put into consideration first and foremost, because not only to buy it that matters, but to manitain it, considering our poor manitanance culture. To hire a pilot, an aircraft engineeers and other related staff, above all, it is not like cars you can park within your premises, it is a must that it has to be at the Airport underthe care of FAAN with monthly charges, all these facts has to be considered before purchasing a jet.
My brother, your position that nothing is bad in it is completely debunked by your other points as to the costs to maintain the Jets. The points listed show that the acquisition is evil, hence none of the pastors will readily admit its their direct purchase. How many of the so called men of God have lied that it is a gift? I sorry for the Christians of today!
YOU ARE POOR NOT BECOS OF NIGERIA BUT BECOS YOUR BRAIN IS NOT RICH.SO YOU ARE LIKE YOUR BRAIN. DONT YOU KNOW THAT NOTHING IS EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS NOTHING. THINK ABOUT IT. YOU ONLY SEE SOMETHING WHILE YOU SHOULD SEEK FOR NOTHING
@BRO CHRIS NKEM:
You are an imbecile. Nigeria is back to the Stone Age because of fools like you. Pope, the Head of the Catholic Church in Rome have no airplane. Pope takes Alitalia to his foreign engagements. And Italy is well developed. Nigeria can’t even make bicycle spoke. No road, no electricity, no water and you talking about crusade. You are a suffer head.
Christiandom what a shame where does this money come from, from the poor who got their hard earn money . Offering time blessing time?
God is watching us.
You people always have the poor in mind, but you are very wicked. The most wicked man on earth is the poor man. Just imagine how a poor man is treating his follow poor man
I have nothing against people owning private jets. My concern is that the regulators should ensure that the operators of these jets follow proper procedure for both operations and maintenance of the aircraft.
And they should remember that terrorists can convert jets into missiles whenever they can lay their filthy hands on any…Nigeria is currently at a state of war.
If you want to acquire one, just be sure you get it wt your own money, not ours… Remember the last day!
This new trend of madness shows that Jonathan administration is far more corrupt than that of Obasanjo.
Nigeria is a failed state.
They collect offerings and Tithes but will go to hell if they don’t pay or bring to me their Prophet offering!!!
As an oracle of God, I have said so.
A heavy tax on these aircrafts can be useful at this time.
Why not go for parachute?Benson Idahosa was the preacher who travelled most during his life time.He took christainity and crusade to almost all the nooks and crannies in the world,This man did not have any jet.Any man of God that buy a jet when there are poor members among the members of his church is a corrupt man of God.
Listen Nigerians, I said this before and I will say it again. Church’s money is not for the pastors it is the elders or the church council that will determine the salaries of these pastors then formulate programes with the pastors that will aliviate the sufferings of the poor among them.
Any pastor who uses tithe money for his personal property or private jet has commited evil. What happened to first class ticket if you so disire to live luxury life.
Oh Lord, I pray to you to touch our rich men to remember the poor / less-privileged.
Every so called Christian leader should take a closer look at Prophet TB Joshua and his Emmanuel TV team, try to see if they could have anything to learn!
