20 killed as Nasarawa boils

From ABDULLAHI SHUAIBU, Lafia

Twenty people were reportedly killed and many houses were burnt yesterday in a fresh attack in Agyaragu community, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

An eyewitness, who does not want to be named, said the crisis started when some Eggon people were attacked and killed in the bush by unknown persons.

When the news spread to the town, youths in the area came out in their thousands, went on the rampage, killing and maiming people at will.

When the dust settled, 20 people died while dozens were seriously injured as several others sustained serious injuries.

Houses and property worth millions of Naira were destroyed.

When Daily Sun visited Agyaragu yesterday, some dead bodies littered the town while houses were still burning even as security agencies were in place.

Youths were also seen carrying guns, bows, arrows and machetes.

They blocked major roads linking the town and other neighbouring villages as well as the one that linked Lafia from Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Meanwhile, the situation had been put under control by the security agencies.

As at press time, no official casualty figure was forthcoming as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Michael Ada, did not pick our reporter’s calls.

I am glad that the Aggon people trooped into the streets “in Thousands” to avenge the killing of their people by the foolanis in the bush. This is exactly how communities should act whenever the foolanis go out to kill innocent people in their communities. The Yorubas should be ashamed for allowing the foolanis to rape a newly wed in Ogun state and go scott-free. Plateau people, Southern Kaduna people, Benue people you all should learn a lesson and the the cue from the gallant people of Aggon community for getting their revange on the foolanis.

I have said it here on several occasions that those that work in Lipton tea factory should not go for coffee break or else they will return and definitely get fired.
The legendary Ezeigbo gburugburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu saw what other myopic leaders did not see in the sixties when he opted for a Biafran State out of this contraption called nigeria. But he was vehemently opposed by these so called guinea savanna elements, who thought they were fighting to protect their Hausa/Fulani oligarchy. All ye people that gathered to crush the Biafran dream shall see no peace even in your life time. Its always Fulani versus Biroms, Tivs, Eggons, Katafs, Jukuns, Bachamas and all their northern kindreds.
For me, i am just laughing, because this is just good morninggggggggg!!!!!

No mention was made of Fulani in the attack which was said to have prompted the crisis. People were said to have been killed by ”unknown persons” in the bush, NOT by Fulanis. How come many seem to be concluding the perpetrators are Fulanis?

I always advised that people should reason very well before they speak for or against in any issues that concerns others because you may be the next victim of such circumstance you supported that is bad which befalled to Mr. A,B or C. yesterday that you were celebrerating. NIGERIANS, THINK WISELY. It is very unfortunately that we don’t learn from the past and yet we claimed to know it all. Have you ever sat down to ask yourself ” WHY NOTHING IS WORKABLE IN THIS SINFUL COUNTRY CALLED NIGERIA SINCE AFTER THE CIVIL WAR”? Take a look at the following government establishment: NEPA, NNPC,NRC,NITEL,WATER WORKS, EDUCATION SYSTEM, KILLING ALL OVER THE NORTH, name them yourself. Do you know why, because nobody want to face the truth and do wrong to right, above all, the blood of the innocent souls murdered in this NATION, especially during the civil war are crying daily working against the progress of this NATION since the ACTORS both the death and the living refused to appologise to those they offended. How can you initiate the death of innocent soul and belief that you will go free, impossible.HAVE YOU NOT HEARD THAT GOD’S STANDARD CAN’T BE COMPROMISED. The evil that men do live after them. NIGERIANS GOVT. GIVE THE SOUTH EAST THEIR FAIR SHARE, RIGHT ALL PAST WRONG DONE AGAINST THE IGBOS, ASK THE MAN ACTORS OF GENOCIDES AGAINST THE IGBOS STILL LIVING TO APOLOGISE AND CONFESS THEIR SINS AGAINST HUMANITY KILLED, WITHIN SHORT PERIOD, GOD WILL AUTHOMATICALLY ANSWER OUR PRAYERS AND PRESIDENT JONATHAN WILL SPEAK WORD AND IT WILL HAPPEN, A NEW NIGERIA WILL BE BORN, ALL THE KILLING BOKO HARAM, AGITATION OF ALL SORTS WILL STOP. IF YOU ARE SEEKING THE FACE OF GOD FOR AN ANSWER, FIRST AND FOREMOST, CONFESS YOUR SINS. NIGERIA IS ON TOP OF HIGHIEST SINS COMMITTED DURING THE WAR AGAINST ONE OF HER CHILDREN, UNREPENTED, ASKING FOR GODS FAVOUR? TAKE IT OR NOT, TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE THAT INITIATED AND ENCOURAGED THIS EVIL (GENOCIDE) AND SEE THAT NOBODY HEARS THE NAMES OF THEIR CHILDREN AND ALL IS NEVER WELL WITH THEM, IT IS ONLY COVERING UP THEY ARE LIVING ON. DO NOT WANT TO MENTION NAMES BUT YOU KNOW THEM BOTH THOSE LIVING AND THE DEATH. GOD BLESS NIGERA IF ONLY THE BIG THIEVES AND THE OCCULTIC MEN OF THE RULING CLASS CAN HUMBLE THWSELVES AND DO AS I HAVE ADVISED, WE ALL SHALL SMILE AGAIN.

The fighting is between Eggon Tribe and Koro Tribe (non-hausa/fulani) in Agyaragu, Obi Local Govt. of Nasarawa state, and both mostly Christians. The number of people killed are not more than five with some houses burnt. Among the houses burnt by the Eggons belong the pastor of the area. The Sun newspaper is not fair on this story.

  28. Danladee November 22, 2012 at 3:39 pm - Reply

The incident was caused by alleged stealing of motorcycle by yet to be identified person who ran into Gwadanye area of Koro people who have a long standing hostility with the people of Angwan Yakubu where the motorcycle is alleged to be stolen from.

It is further revealed that effort by the people of Angwan Yakubu to fish out the alleged culprit from Gwadanye resulted into the fracas. There was recently clashes between the same Eggon people with Alago at Asakiyo, Agatu in Benue, and in Doma.

Sun, how do you reconcile this news to what Danladee is saying? It’s quite unfortunate that most people used this forum to exhibit their level ignorance not minding what they contribute on this site. I believed this platform is provided as to entertain contributions that can proffer solution to issues at hand, and not a forum of expressing our tribal sentiments and religious differences, railing of abuses and uncomplimentary languages. Please, lets guide our comments and be more civil as we communicate on this social media. My prayer is that God will save His people at this end time IJN. Amen! My advice to The Sun is that, let the news they publish be well edited and scrutinized before publication so that we do not take half baked news.
