Jonathan’s brother dies in National Hospital

From JULIANA TAIWO-OBALONYE, Abuja

The Presidency yesterday in Abuja confirmed the death of Chief Meni Innocent Jonathan, younger brother to President Goodluck Jonathan after a brief illness. A one-paragraph statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati said the president’s brother passed on at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness, expressing sadness over the incident.

The late Jonathan was said to have been ill for sometime and was said to have been flown in from Bayelsa on Monday night when his condition grew worse. Formal burial arrangements will be announced later by the family, said the statement. Meanwhile, Senate President David Mark has sent a message of condolence to President Goodluck Jonathan over the death of his younger brother. Senator Mark urged the First Family to take solace in the fact that the late Meni lived exemplary life of discipline and decency. “I share in this grief and pains.

I pray God in His infinite mercies grant you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.” He also commiserated with the government and people of Bayelsa State to take solace in the fact that late Meni lived a short but eventful life.

      The dead should be remembered for their good deeds. It is just a common respect. You do not want to be remembered for bad things you have done, right..

      Don M, does your assertion chnage anything? Will it bring back the dead? Cant you be civil and just express your condolence?

      @Joelance, nice post.

      @Don M,
      Wooo, what God looks at mostly is the state of your soul at the point of death ok. If a good man eventually die at bad state of mind he will surely suffer likewise the bad one repenting before death strikes, God wll show him mercy, nevertheless lets mourn with him that mourns thats the right thing to do, cos death is inevitable. It’s TURN BY TURN. JONATHAN’s family take heart pls.

      @ joelance, you should learn to read between the lines. ” lived exemplary life of discipline and decency. lived a short but eventful life.” these are lines from David mark. ordinarily, it is assumed that david mark must have known this fella for ages to have made such statement. however, it is also true that he hardly knows him. fact!

    Personally, i do not know him and haven’t heard of him before now not till now he is death, therefore should David Mark discibed him as a gentleman, he is right, to me he merited it and deserve it. Considering that the elder brother is the serving President, yet not much have been heard about him is enough reason to confirm him as a agentleman. We knew the life style of our Ex-Presidents childern and relations in the society, even the ministers relations are known every where but imagine serving Presidents younger brother is only known by many at this time of his death. Be warned and be mindful over your comments about death person. Mr. President may have his personal fault, but death of his younger brother has nothing to do with that, besides, we don’t celeberate or rejoice the death because death is entirely GOD’S PERSONAL AFFAIRS. no matter the way it may come from either by accident or natural, God knows the best, therefore should mourn with the diseased family and not to laugh at them, pleases be warned. I am very sorry for the untimely death of this young man who died at the celebration of his elder brothers birthday, may the President and his entire family accept my sympathy. FOR THOES OF YOU WISHING HIM REST IN PEACE AND ALL THAT, THERE IS NO REPENTANCE IN GRAVE, AFTER DAETH, JUDGEMENT FOLLOWS IMMIDIATELY. YOUR QUALIFICATION TO HEAVEN IS NOTHING BUT YOUR GOOD WORK AND RIGHTEOUSNESS WHILE YOU ARE LIVING, YOU AND ME MUST BE PREPARED AT ANY TIME. WE MUST NOT GO WITH A PIN OF OURS HOW MUCH MORE NAIRA AND DOLLARS. HAVE YOU EVER REASONED LIKE THIS BEFORE? YOU CAN SEE THAT DEATH DO NOT KNOW WHO IS WHO, THE BEST DOCTORS AND HOSPITAL CAN’T STOP MR. DEATH PROVIDED IT HAS BEEN SIGNED BY GOD.
