Girl gang-raped to a coma in Delta

From PAUL OSUYI, Asaba

A lady believed to be in her early twenties has been raped to an unconscious state by four men around Cemetery Road in Warri, Delta State. The victim, who is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, was said to have boarded a taxi cab with four male passengers from Odion Road to her residence in Aguowe Street, Off Mac Demot Road.

Daily Sun gathered that the driver suddenly took a different direction towards Cemetery Road to the chagrin of the victim. It was further learnt that the victim challenged the driver of the taxi but the other passengers drew a dagger and threatened to kill her if she raised any alarm.

They, thereafter, drove down to a storey building on the Cemetery Road where the miscreants had a field day raping the victim until she became unconscious.

However, luck ran out on them as the matter was reported to the Quick Response Squad of the Delta State Police Command in Warri, who swung into action and arrested one Akpofure, Seih and Obrakpo all of Nos. 24, 64 and 66, Cemetery Road, Warri. Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Famous Ajieh, who confirmed the arrests in Asaba yesterday, stated that the police were currently on the trail of the fourth suspect, one Ebeme.

Ajieh said the arrested suspects had confessed to the crime, adding that one Black Berry phone used by the suspects in recording the rape action was recovered.

Ajieh informed that the command also had in its custody three suspected murderers and kidnappers including Ikwueke, Uwaguna and Evjouke. He said the gang members were arrested for allegedly killing one Emmanuel Chukwunolu, who refused to be kidnapped on December 23, 2012 at Ebeneku in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesman added that investigation into the matter was on with a view to arresting other members of the kidnap syndicate.

Gang rape in this time of multiple HIV infection, well I wonder what is wrong with humans. As for me, it irritates to use any woman which another man is dating. Well criminals behave like animals and some animals are even better of. Thanks to Nigerian Police for a job well done and they should be made to face the music of the heinous actions.

I thank God that the Police have done a great job by arresting them without wasting a second. What type of wickedness and open assult to an innocent lady is this in our society? I suggest that this type of comfirmed crime need not to be delayed than to immidiately waste the animals by hanging them to death to reduce the crime wave since they are also involved in army robbery, kidnapping and killing of one Emmanuel who refused to be kidnapped. I am suggesting death as a penalty to their offence because we know what our police custody and our curropt judiciary is that at long run they will set them free and they will go back to continue with their crime.

If anything will break Nigeria, it is corruption, utter neglect of human and infrastructural development, not Bokko Haram. Recently, some youths were said to have killed law makers at Kano for 100,000 naira in the Nation newspaper. Government need to change, become sincere and transparent to avert imminent revolution of the masses against the elites, especially of the political class.

The gang rape of a thing we heard from India is now in our door step. I enjoin Delta state government and federal government to intervene in this crime in other to bring the culprits to book. Police should not be left alone to handle this case, if not they would go for settlement and at the end of it, the criminals would be let off the hook.

    PATRIOT,
Please have all the killer rape gang members castrated to prevent future raping of innocent women. Simply because prevention is better than cure.

Capital punishment for rapist would have been a better option to curtail this menance. These culprits would have been made to suffer life imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to others but our anti-rape laws and implementations are very weak. Kudos to NPF for their quick response and I pray they are not released by just a phone call.

Delta is becoming the most insecured state in Nigeria. Lagos n Anambra used to take the lead, but Delta has turned itself to Devil pla ground. Laziness is the root of all this vices in Delta state, cos their youths are used to catching groove, and wont want to work. God, pls, heal our land from this iniquities. Amen.
