The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has announced the dissolution of the state’s executive council. According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, Governor Fayemi communicated the decision to members of the council during Wednesday’s meeting at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.
He directed the commissioners and special advisers to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries. The governor thanked all the executive members for their support to the government in the last two years, adding that the dissolution and the re-constitution that would follow were aimed at revitalising the administration and positioning it for greater performance.
He said: “This is a moment of change and transformation in all that we are doing. This is not a statement about an individual not pulling their weight enough.”
The New Year shock, which commissioners in Ekiti State received from Governor Fayemi made them abandon after the meals served them after the exco meeting. A reliable source at the meeting disclosed that the governor kept the dissolution of his cabinet close to his chest until all the items on the agenda for the meeting had been discussed before releasing the ‘bombshell.’
The special advisers to the governor, who also fell victim as well shunned the food. The source, who did not want his name mentioned said: “Immediately the governor completed all the issues on the agenda and it was time to eat, he announced the dissolution of the cabinet. The commissioners could not eat their food and some of them had to leave hurriedly.”
