Tragedy struck in Anambra State capital, Awka, when a three-month-old stolen baby boy delivered by 20-year-old Charity Nwuzor from Ebonyi State died mysteriously in the custody of the Women Affairs Motherless Babies Home, Ifite-Awka. The home is owned and run by the Women Affairs Ministry of the Anambra State Government.
Daily Sun reported that the child, who was stolen from a private hospital in the commercial city of Onitsha through the help of the doctor and fiance to Charity and kept in the orphanage’s custody allegedly developed an unusual complication, which caused blood to ooze out from his mouth and nose until he died. The child, who was yet be given a name in the orphanage, was delivered by Miss Nwuzor through a cesarean operation in a hospital in the commercial city of Onitsha.
It was further gathered that after the delivery of the baby in the hospital, the medical director allegedly sold off the baby to a woman believed to be an employee of the Nigerian Immigration Services even before the young mother was able to recuperate from her cesarean operation. Meanwhile, the baby was later recovered by policemen from “D” Department (the state CID) Awka, in November 2012 following a written petition dated 17/9/12 and addressed to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Balla Nasarawa, by counsel to Miss Nwuzor, Mr. Afam Akonanya.
The baby was taken to the orphanage for safe keeping pending the resolution of the conflict surrounding the ownership and birth of the baby but he died on January 5 in a mysterious circumstance. The Director, Child Welfare in the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Emeka Ejide, described the death of the baby as unusual, adding that the child did not die in their custody or the state government-owned orphanage.
Ejide, however, disclosed that the child died in Beacon Hospital also in Awka where the baby was taken to for treatment, after contracting slight malaria and further said the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development received the news of the death of the baby with shock. When contacted, the Medical Director of Beacon Hospital, Awka, Dr. Anikpo expressed surprise at the sudden death of the baby, adding, “I am still shocked that a baby who was brought here few days ago to be treated of slight malaria and was certified healthy and discharged could suddenly develop such complication that led to blood gushing forth from his mouth and nose which finally led to his death.
“Our treatment, which we gave to the baby was successful, so, I cannot make head or tail of the circumstances that led to his death,” he said. Reacting to the death of her son in such controversial circumstance, Miss Nwuzor said, “since my baby was recovered from the syndicate that sold and bought the baby and was kept at the orphanage, I made every effort to take custody of my son but the Police IPO, Mr. Remy Okeaku, gave me stringent conditions that made it impossible.
“The IPO insisted I must bring my biological father and mother as well as the traditional ruler of my community before taking the child. Moreover, I never knew he had collaborated with the doctor and the immigration woman that bought my son to frustrate me. Lately, I discovered that the trio did come secretly to visit my baby from time to time at the orphanage. What is their motive of visiting my baby?”

Shame on the medical director for his involvement in selling somebody’s child. The immigration woman if you have been written off medically to carry pregnancy are there no legitimate ways you can seek assistance in trying to conceive and save your dignity what do you think IVF is for except if you do not have womb? Or better still go for proper adoption through the motherless babies home all those babies must have lost their mother at birth and are being kept there waiting for people like you. I believe God will not forgive you for the manslaughter of that innocent baby. The Nigerian police should arrest the medical director and the immigration woman for prosecution. After serving the prison term the Nigerian Medical Association should dismiss him and withdraw his licence. Because the immigration woman has never carried a pregnancy and deliver through cesarean she may not understand what the 20 year girl passed through.
I agree with you and in addition the useless husband of the young lady Mrs Nwuzor should be prosecuted for the death of that baby.I am alarmed that the immigration woman in whose custody the stolen baby was recovered from should have be charged to court for unlawful possession of another woman’s baby,but this same woman was now travelling with the IPO to visit the stolen baby at the State Social Welfare far away from the Police Homicide Department in Awka,what a shame to Police work.
My heart goes to the young lady but my advice is that she should leave the mad man that claim to be her husband that wants to turn her to baby factory for him to sell to make money.

I am saddened how the life of this handsome boy was wasted and people think God will not judge them, just for filthy lucrum.
This is premediated murder forget the bullshit story from the welfare officer and the attending Physician. Why was this child taken to a private hospital and not government hospital, there is even a teaching hospital at Awka? what does the doctor mean by slight malaria, malaria is malaria there nothing known to medicine as slight malaria. Its really rare for a three month baby to contract malaria as they still have partial immunity from their heamoglobin configuration, what was the differential diagnosis in this case? Why was this child not taken to the teaching hospital when he developed complications and left to die? why are Nigerian “quake” doctors still tied themselves to an unending Malaria, typhoid, staphylococcus.
NMDC should look into this case and prosecute these doctors, as for the welfare officer and police what do you expect, kill the evidence. God is watching

A post mortem should be carried out to know if the baby was poisoned. That would solve the riddle by half. Unbelievably, one hardly hears of post mortem in Nigeria in todays world. Many crimes are commited that cannot be proved scientifically like in other nations.

This doctor that treated malaria and certified the baby healed must produce all the drugs they gave the baby. I suspect a grand conspiracy by the doctor and the man that imprignated the girl that sold the baby and this doctor that treated him of malaria on one hand, and the immigration officer that bought the baby and the IPO handling the case, and probably, a staff of the ophanage. Their motive was to remove evidences that the court will rely on, to convict them. There should be an independent autopsy, while all the people mentioned above should be seriously interogated.

its just unfurtunate for the mother of this baby to have lost the baby in this tragical way, but one thing i believe is that the ipo action to the babys mother speaks a lot, i think he must have taking some big cola [bribe] from the alledged accuser who had bought the baby, other wise why would an officer who should have understand how strong the cord that has hold mother and baby together can be,why does he have no single remorse for the babys mother to have allowed her get her baby after all she has gone through looking for this baby after birth.this must have the most terrible time in the life of the poor woman. i suggest the govrment should look into this and find out why the involment of the authority fail to settle a matter like this, in this modern era, where a single DNA test could have easily clearify the issue. its quiet suspicious to to my own observation for one to have ignored the necessary for unneccesary demand that has caused a lost of life. asking some to get her families and traditional rulers before recovering her baby should definately be out of the pictures, and i am not realy sure if this man would expect himself to enjoy the fruit of his own labour! after depriving someone of her baby in this tragic way.
I am very much disturbed by the constant report of child trafficking/sale of innocent babies in the Eastern part of the country.I know evil men and women dwell in other parts of the country,but something very serious must be done about the frequency of child trading in the East.

The useless man that impregnated this girl and connived with someone else to to buy the baby what does he expect in future? Tomorrow he will get married to another person and the wrath of God will be upon her in form of childlessness because of what she has no knowledge of.
(2) The immigration woman bought another woman’s child, the baby was recovered from her and she keeps moving about a free person, goes to work whereas she suppose to be prosecuted and cooling off in jail.
