Unconfirmed reports yesterday indicated that the State Security Service (SSS), arrested a serving Senator, Ahmad Zanna Khalifa, alleged to be habouring and shielding members of the Boko Haram sect. Reports had it that a man suspected to be a commander of the dreaded sect was allegedly having a good time in the home of the Senator. Senator Khalifa, representing Borno Central Senatorial had since denied the allegation.
Speaking on Political Platform, a radio programme on Raypower FM, Abuja, yesterday, the embattled Senator although admitted that the alleged Boko Haram Commander was his distant cousin, he said that he never knew him to a member of the sect.
He, however, admitted that the suspect was a drug addict but that he had since distanced himself from him. Daily Sun also learnt that earlier yesterday, the Senator had addressed a press conference to debunk the allegations but shortly after, he was whisked away by SSS operatives at about 2pm.
As at 8pm yesterday, Khalifa was said be cooling his heels in detention at the SSS headquarters, Abuja. Some of his loyalists, in an effort to ensure his protection and quick release, raised the alarm that they learnt that the Senator would be released after answering the necessary questions. A source later confided in Daily Sun that they were worried that he was not going to be released as earlier promised.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, to confirm the arrest and detention of the Senator proved abortive as at press time, yesterday.

I would not be surprised if after the SSS interrogations and eventual charge to court, the Senator was released. Afterall the first senator that was linked with bokoharam and was even fingered as their sponsor, what happened now after all the court case? He settled himself with the Judge and even the Judge gave him a soft landing by asking him to come back to his court if unable to comply with his court conditions for bail. What a shame to some of these Judges like suspended Isa Ayo Salami, who beleived in higher bidder to get what they want.

I highly commend President Jonathan, for reaching joint security arrangement along the border, with Authorities in Niger Republic. It is long overdue. Such should be extended to all the Northern boundaries. It will go a long way to nip in the bud, influx of mercenary fighters, arms smuggling, and other evils across the border with Chad, and other neighbouring countries. There should be proper ways of identifying other nationals, and illegal aliens in Nigeria. I will continue to remain gratitude for to our security service men. They have been expressing their capability in tracking down criminals not withstanding their improverished working condition and lack of sophisiticated technology. Their work is to tract down ofenders and bring them to book, with every sincerity, they have been complying to this laid down legal procedure. The question goes to the judicial body. Are they executing their legal actions without looking at the defendant bank account or at the Presidential Vila. Do they discard the code of law and constitution placed before them. I am neither a police man nor a military man so I cry out without perjudice, Nigerian forces should be honoured but our judiciary body should be stoned. They are a disgrace to the judicial professionism. Presdencial Immunity upholds only when his ofence is not known by the public and is not scandalous. If this is the case why did our judiciary set the former senator free whereas they keeping on hanging innocent citizens.
