…Obi seeks churches’ aid against killings

Following the unabated attacks on churches by Boko Haram, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday said it was considering approaching the International Criminal Court (ICC) to press charges against the Islamist sect for crimes committed against Christians.
Disclosing CAN’s plan at the opening of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra State, the National President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, said the actions of the sect were solely targeted at Christians and aimed at cleaning up Christianity in the North in particular and Nigeria in general.
He said, “the verdict of the International Criminal Court that the Boko Haram has committed crimes against humanity has again vindicated my stand that the American government and indeed, the international community, should as a matter of urgency, designate Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organization.
We in CAN are strongly considering criminal charges against Boko Haram for crimes committed against Christians at the International Criminal Court, because we cannot continue to fold our arms while the sect members continue with the killings of Christians in northern Nigeria. That will be done soon.” He, however, berated the 17 southern governors for what he described as their silence over the killings of their people in the North and challenged them to confront their colleagues in the North to stop the killings of southerners in the North by Boko-Haram.
“We commend the efforts of the security agencies. However, with the way the sect members are succeeding in their attacks on military and other security posts and installations including churches in their environments as evidenced in the bombing of a church inside the Command and Staff College, Jaji, it is obvious that they have not done enough. I speak in this manner because as we are here, my heart goes to these brothers, sisters and children who have paid the supreme price in a state that is supposed to be secular.
We cannot shy away from discussing it because the Boko Haram sect has become a presence that is always there, somewhere in the subconscious. In his speech, Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, took the challenge back to the church, asking the clergy to block the gates of all the government houses in the country to stop corruption, the way it happened in the Philippines some years back during the reign of Ferdinand Marcos. He stated that it was time to say “enough is enough,” as according to him, they would not continue to fold their arms and allow their people slaughtered like cows in the North.
He said, “It is time for the church to take responsibility of correcting the political leaders, a country cannot move forward in the face of too much greed, the level of greed in the country is too high. We should stop celebrating criminality in this country, it is time for churches to block the gates of government houses in this country the way it happened in Philippines to stop corruption, that is where the church and government can partner together to save the situation.”

That would be a step in the right direction because boko hlaram is a terrorist organisation. In fact make the International Court of Justice to understand that anybody from the northern part of Nigeria should be treated as a terrorist since some of their senators and governors sponsor boko haram they are all birds of the same feather. Since the hausa boy tried blowing up an airline in America, Nigerians face special scrutiny at foreign airports yet that is not enough dent on us now its boko haram. Of course can be done to wipe them. How many mosques have they attacked since this menace started? They go for their prayers every friday without anything to worry about but on sundays christians are afraid to go and worship.
CAN that is a good step concerning this issue of killing of Christians in the north and insecurity in our nation.Pls i think the best to do is to charge those northern governors for lack of responsibilities in securing the life of Christians in their states.And the way they are showing unconcern in the slaughtering of Christians by their people

Honestly, the 17 southern governors are the real bokos. I remember when orji kalu was in power, he bluntly told OBJ then that if the killing then continued, then he could no longer guarantee the safety of northerners in his state. The kind of governors we have now are just lily-levered and they should wake up before their generation suffers the same fate being suffered by southerners in the north.

Comments well made. However, We must correct the impression that Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor is trying to give this country. Nigeria is not a secular country. It is rather a multi religious country. A secular state has no recognition for any religion, talkless of preferance on one against the other. Our political leaders are Christians, Muslims, Animists and etc. President GEJ was inaugurated with a bible, Late President UMY was inaugurated with Koran. Where then is the secularity. We suspend business activities officially from Friday evening to Monday Morning to allow the Seventhday christians and the regular christians to go for their worship as their faith demands. We suspend business for two hours on Friday to allow Muslims for their worship as demamded by the faith. We observe Eid, Christmas, Easter, Gregorian calendar new year as public holidays. Where is the secularity.
Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor can only say that in Nigeria, some religions are more religion than others and this shows the level of our unfairness.
It’s a good idea. I pray God will use them to do some other things added to what God is doing already to save us.

Are you not aware that the way boko haram sects target churches is the same way they also target mosques. Several mosques in kano, yobe, Bauchi and Borno were attacked and several clerics were killed. During one friday prayers, the governor of Borno state and the shehu of Borno escaped death when they where attacked by the sect. Some of the soldiers with them sustained various degrees of injuries, but nobody bring religion sentiments. Oritsejafor ! you are a respected religion leader in this country, continue your prayers for peace in Nigeria.

The issue of Boko haram has defied any solution. CAN’s effort in fishing out the criminal, political, economical and religious Boko Harams is quite commendable These miscrents’ acctivities has overwhelmed the security Agencies.

@ Evans , the International Court of Justice can force the moribund Judiciciary here in Nigeria to hand over the arrested Boko Haramists that are awaiting endlessly for trial to them , to be tried for crime against humanity .
