The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Barrister Mukhtari Shagari, on Thursday lost one of his sons, Lukman Mukhtari Shagari, in a car crash along Zaria-Kaduna highway. The late Lukman was on his way to Abuja from Sokoto when he met his untimely death. A source told Sunday Sun that Lukman, aged 26, died with one of his friends.
Lukman left behind a wife and a child. He was buried on Friday in Shagari town, Sokoto state in accordance with Islamic injunctions. The funeral prayer was led by Imam Umaru Maidamma and was attended by former President Shehu Shagari, Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakkala and his Kebbi State counterpart, Ibrahim Aliyu, as well as father of the deceased.
Among other dignitaries who attended the funeral prayer were INEC National Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, Alhaji Sahabi Gada and the Head of Service Alhaji Bature Shinkafi.
