Amaechi bombs Orubebe

By Ade Alade

Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi has launched a verbal attack on the Niger Delta affairs minister, Godsday Orubebe whose tenure in office he described as an embodiment of “ineptitude and abysmal failure”

The governor’s attack is coming as a direct response to an earlier statement by the minister accusing Amaechi of disrespecting President Goodluck Jonathan in his comments on the state of the East-West road. Amaechi’s response was contained in a statement released yesterday by his spokesman, David Iyofor. He said the response was to “show clearly that the minister’s game is just to divert attention from his ineptitude and abysmal failure.” The governor said he has tremendous respect for President Jonathan and his office contrary to the picture the minister has been trying hard to portray.

“The office of the President of Nigeria is a big institution that deserves utmost respect and it would be grossly irresponsible for anyone to disrespect Mr. President, which unfortunately Minister Orubebe is doing by dragging the President’s name into his inability to deliver on the East –West Road.  Minister Orubebe seems to suffer from a severe form of selective amnesia as he conveniently forgets that the same Amaechi he (Orubebe) now contemptuously, disgraciously and insolently disparages and flippantly  accuses of not respecting Mr. President, led Rivers people to overwhelming vote for and gave President Jonathan the highest votes by any state in the country at the last Presidential elections.

Minister Orubebe should please tell us, what respect, regard and show of love is bigger than that? “Minister Orubebe’s imprudent and reckless attacks on the person of Governor Amaechi is a dubious but obvious attempt by the minister to divert attention from his abysmal failure to deliver on the East-West road. This callous attempt to drag the President’s name into it is what is most disrespectful and irresponsible.”

While accusing the minister of monumental failure in office, Amaechi said: “I challenge Minister Orubebe to show the world the projects he started and completed in the Niger-Delta as Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs. I challenge Minister Orubebe to show the world one project he started and completed in Rivers State with the huge resources allocated to his ministry.”

“What an irony, for an appointed minister who has failed woefully, who has been unable to complete one single road, to cast aspersions on an elected governor who is judiciously using the resources of his people to better their lives and develop their state. What a shame! This is indeed most ridiculous and laughable.  It’s no longer in doubt that Minister Orubebe does not like Rivers State.

Minister Orubebe should please face the simple task of completing one road, just one road, the East-West road, as this dubious diversionary attempt to attack Governor Amaechi will not complete the road that is most dear to the hearts and lives of Niger-Deltans”, the statement added.

Fire on Amaechi, tell him what he does not know. Orubebe is a big disgrace. For failing to complete east west road he should resign honourably. I wonder why Jonathan himself does not see the embarrasment non completion of east west and Enugu Portharcourt roads is causing his administration.

Orubebe, you cannot be Godsday by name and doomsday in action. That road has become the gateway to plenty of funerals.Be reasonable. Go and do that road. The best form of defence is attack. But you (our minister of Niger Delter) should have attacked the menace of death traps on the East West road and not Governor Amaechi. Defaming peoples’ character instead of facing ones’ duties is provoking. The mischief of scandalous propagander suggests proper legal affront. Governor Amaechi should consider litigation to compel that idle minister to come and prove his case.

I do not know orubebe personally, he is a minister and is appointed. Who knows if the money for those roads have siphoned by those who put him there including the niger delta power forces. Amaechi knows his problem with orubabe. But I dont like Amaechi public utterance. He is too proud to my likening. Among the ss govs he is the one attacking the minister. Amaechi is nt happy maybe the minister turned down his memo. We are watcing the drama

I love Gov. Amechi for one thing-His boldness and no nonsense attitude. The East- West road project is long over due for completion , the entire Niger Deltans will never forget this administration if at the end of Mr President tenure it was not completed.Mr ineptitude – minister Orubebe may be saving money to contest election come 2015.
