Tragedy struck yesterday in Akoko area of Ondo State following the death of the Interim Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Mrs. Opeyemi Adefarati and six others in a fatal auto crash
An eyewitness said: “It was a horrible sight to behold on Thursday night when a trailer rammed into a number of vehicles and instantly killed all the occupants of the vehicles at the Iwaro Oka junction.”
Until her death, Mrs. Adefarati was a grassroots politician and an advocate of women emancipation. She has been active politically in the last 10 years. The deceased took active part during the last governorship election in the state.
She was a member of Alliance for Democracy (AD) before she joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from where she defected to Labour Party (LP), where she contested for the House of Assembly ticket against the incumbent deputy Speaker, but lost to him.
The remains of late council boss and other victims of the auto accident have been deposited at Ikare General Hospital’s morgue.
May her soul and other occupants of the vehicle rest in perfect peace. Efforts should be made by all and sundry in Nigeria to put things right to avert all these calamity that been going on in the country.

Efforts were officially made to prevent big lorries from plying Isua – Oka route so as avoid accidents such as this, but some misguided, disgruntled and miscreant individuals were collecting illegal toll gate fee from rather unruly and lawless lorry drivers to pass through the short-cut route both to and fro, disregarding the local barricades. With this irreparable lost now, I hope the villagers would be bold enough to defend their lives and innocent travellers on that route. Ironically, local / state government has statutory right to enforce this action. May be the new LG chairperson / caretaker would learn some lesson – avoid throwing stones into a crowded market, your kinsmen may be buying or selling. May the departed souls rest in perfect peace!
