. 10 year- old boy survives

From LAYI OLANREWAJU,Ilorin S

ixteen people died in a motor accident, which occurred at Osin River, a suburb of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The incident involved a trailer loaded with bags of beans coming from the North and an 18-seater commuter bus.

One of the survivors of the accident was a 10-year-old boy rescued under the wreckage of the vehicles some hours after the tragic incident.

Eyewitness account told Saturday Sun that the commuter bus was conveying passengers returning to Gbadamu-Ologi village, Ilorin East Local Government from Oke-Oyi market, where they had gone to shop in preparation for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

He said that the accident occurred when the driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle while descending a slope at a high speed and crushed the commuter bus, which was maneuvering the rough part of the spot.

Jonathan is educated. He should think like educated person. He should not think like the previous leaders who did not see the four walls of the University. For God’s sake, Nigerians are not suppose to die like ants. Trailersg/Lorries should have their own route. However, may their souls rest in peace.

Trailer should be given time to operate between 7pm to7.00 am. Road safety take note. Work on using towing van to remove every truck or car that is packed on high way and charge the owner. Road stay stop parking on one position disturbing travelers. Please patrol and ask government to work on roads

We most think properly before we comment on some censtive issues. What has Mr president got to do over speeding of a trailer. Do you know what it will to construct road for trailer only in the whole federation. Dont you know that many houses belonging to millions of nigerians will be demolish? My dear take your anger to MAN and other association concerned and not presidency.

The type of trailers here in Denmark is more long than that found in Nigeria but still they dont crush people just like those in Nigeria,I know probably because the roads are good, well maintained and the drivers are cautious while driving. But in Nigeria it is completely the opposite, our govt should put more emphasis on the masses welfare and not their selfish desire.God should forgive me i wished i state Governor involved in a plan crash died instantly so that by now he would be burning in hell. What a country he has an helicopter and a plane to fly around while the masses suffer not to mention the fleet of cars packed in his garage.

These trucks have specified time they ply the highway in advanced countries. Mostly in the Mid-Nights when you can hardly see light vehicles on the roads. We can emulate them. The goods must not get to their destination immediately at the expense of our lives. It can be a governor or senator or chief judge tomorrow. A stitch in time saves nine. Enough of this carnage.

Am suprise of what i just read, an my opinion is that the government of this nation should raise a team that will be monitoring road. Any trailer/vehicle that runs more than the nomal range should be arrested, especialy inside the town.

High speed and bad roads are the major cause of roady accidents. Drivers should be cautioned on the danger of over-speeding and the Government should play their part by ensuring that the roads are good for commuters use.

Lack of proper Traffic and Driving Regulations is the main cause of rampant vehicular accident in Nigeria where there are no periodical Check and Test Run on vehicle such as MOT to determine the safety state of vehicles likewise regulations on how many hours truck drivers on long distance drive can be on the road before having a break as well as Driving education – Enlightening Drivers on safety awareness.(Driving Lesson and Test must be conducted properly but not clandestinely as its done right now while a separate and comprehensive Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving training and test should be compulsory for Truck Drivers)
There are other sundries such as corrupt safety officials such as VIO or Road safety officers and Police that would rather ask for bribe instead of issuing a Rectification or seizure order on dangerous vehicles—–All these would result in incessant and unwarranted losses of Human lives. So Nigerians requires a revolutionary approach to Health and Safety plus act of discipline which will help and ensure strict adherence to RULES AND REGULATIONS.

  48. delaw October 28, 2012 at 3:47 am - Reply

what concerns education wt this, jonathan is not a mechanic or VIO to check the road worthiness of the trailer, how could the driver of the trailer over speeding on a bad road, most of the trailer drivers are absolutely reckless while driver and they believe if there is accident it will not affect them bc they re inside big car, but they dont care about the small cars on d road even if we ve ten diving lanes in nigeria trailer drivers will also ve accident its their hobby
