Boko Haram planning new attacks –Army chief

The Nigerian Army yesterday called the citizenry to activate their vigilance over terrorism fully, as it has made a new discovery that the group is amassing weapons to launch fresh attacks. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Onyeabor Ihejirika, who made the revelation said: “As we speak, I am aware that Boko Haram is training some where,

I am also aware that Boko Haram is ordering new equipment and planning new attacks.” General Ihejirika spoke while declaring open, an interactive session on the Military-Media Relations in Nigeria, insisting that since Boko Haram was amassing weapons, the Army would not rest on its oars in the fight to cut off the supply of line of the group. He said: “I talk so much about the use of force because that is my own line of business, my job is to destroy the terrorist, if

I am able to find them or to deny them access or curtail their movement generally. But I want to say that curbing terrorism like any other problem requires multifaceted approach. There is no country where terrorism had been curbed that force was not applied.” He said Boko Haram is not a menace Nigerians expect to vanish overnight, noting the reasons Boko Haram still florished in Nigeria to include; insufficient security awareness, undue publicity, which encourages and fuel their activities, porous borders, which we are finding ways and means of policing and external support, which they get despite efforts to stop them.

The Army chief said cutting external support of Boko Haram group would be done through collaboration with Nigeria’s neighbours, insisting that: “I am aware that there is collaboration at the Presidency level and the office of the National Security Adviser and Chief of Defence Staff. Particularly the Chief of Defence Staff is meeting with the CDS of countries around Nigeria and some of these collaborations will be in terms of joint patrol. We are also establishing Forward Operation Bases that will enhance border patrol, but the most important of all these is the public security awareness.”

Ihejirika revealed that one of the headquarters of Boko Haram, which was discovered in Kano, was within areas where law-abiding citizens were living, explaining that the owner started building reinforced wall and the residents never asked question “and they never know what the man was into until he was discovered. It took the army a whole night to pull down the wall and gain access into the compound.

If only the residents knew and had asked question, they would have been able to report to the law enforcement agents before the problem escalated.” He said findings by the Nigerian Army revealed that the sect recruits their followers, mostly the uneducated and disgruntled, through a covert radicalization process that assures all adherents of many heavenly benefits once they kill non-adherents. It urged the media to expose the activities of the sect to assist the security agencies curb the menace.

While acknowledging the role of the media towards improved security within the country, the Chief of Army Staff said: “As we are all aware, the increasing role of the media in warfare takes root in the dynamics of the global security environment.” –

Porous bother should be taken seriously in Nigeria.Immigration should wake up and empowered where necessary, I wonder how come that there is proliferation of weapon in this country

I am compelled to say something here, even though I had wanted not to. All this talk about citizen not giving information, the same thing police people parrot always, whereas they have not earned people’s confidence, may just not be the way to deal decisively with Boko Haram menace in Nigeria. The Nigeria Army appears to be tackling this matter rather manually. Don’t they advertise their minds to the use of modern equipment imbued with hitech gadgets to monitor, gather intelligence, discover and destroy identified Boko Haram cells. Nigeria Army don’t have planes that can help them track down movements of suspected Boko Haram? Everyday we hear they are trying to collaborate with one neigbouring country or another. COAS says he is aware that BH is training somewhere, ordering weapon from somewhere and planning new attacks. Is he making an intelligent guesses or with concrete, hard evidence? They need to thing outside the box if they must win this war. Govt should summon security summit where other people can have opportunity to suggest alternative ways. To me, long years of our military in politics have really dealt a serious blow to our military capabilities.

Is it only when you were told where they are trainign, where the weapon is coming from and where they will attack that you will believe?

U are right in ur speech and assertions my brother. But, in the present world, fighting wars of this category requires additional efforts. The Nigerian Army/JTF are doing their best, but needs assistance. They should be provided with modern Tech. Apparatus to monitor & fish out the terrorists and other security-threats in the Country. God bless Nigeria.

If someone is cheating on you & you refused to complain, it then means u’re enjoying it! If you notice some strange movements in ur area or strange faces, or people coming in and out of a building/area, and you did nt report then whatever happens thereafter; it’s ur ass! These boko-rams ‘re humans and they live with us. By now, the pple of the North ought to know their (bokoharam) mode of operation and report to the appropriate authority when they notice such movements! Let them continue killing themselves. i’m fucking tired of all these Bullshit

If Boko Haram is planning new attack, the JTF should also plan new counter-attack.

The call 4 amnesty to these monsters
    started as a murmurring from
northerners but when they saw that
leaders from the south seem not to
    be taking note,they become
enboldened and outspoken.Northerners are out to
snatch every cash earned through oil
exploration from s/s and s/e in any
way possible.Boko haram is a direct
    northern response to MEND.Since
mend from niger delta earned money through amnesty, north is hell bent to
gain as well through militancy of any
    type and subsequent amnesty that’ll
    follow suit.
The north have since allocated 83%
of oil blocks to themselves, created more states and local govt for
    themselves.they’be had most
    senators,house members etc etc.They
posted majority of govt organs to
their regions including the FCT to abuja.they’ve earned govt money
money more than south so now what
    do they want again?
What is killing north is nothing but
    tribal jealousy alone.Northerner fight
to rule not to develop the country but to halt the advances made by other
region and the tribe that inhabit
them.Just take a look at their past
    leadership in nigeria starting from
    Gowon to abdulsalami and check
their policies in relative to realities of their era and u’ll agree with me.
    Why do northerners reject Soveriegn
    national conference(snc)or better
confederal govt knowing well that all
the problem of nigeria is emanating
from bad structuration and that they themselves’ll gain from
    restructuration of nigeria?It’s cos
they dont want other region to be
better developed so their jealousy to
other tribes is killing nigeria. If not
why were they after s/e,s/s oil money and even killing them.north fights for
    presidency whenever they see socio-
    economic advances in southern parts
of nigeria.they dont fight to improve
the life of their people as well but to
put policies that destroys othee people’s hardwork.enough of those
    nonsenses pls

The problem of the south is that there are no true leaders,If there were,we should have long seperated from the North.

  11. Anthony I Efobi April 3, 2013 at 5:14 pm

Say the Truth, u are absolutely right. Nothing missed from ur articulation. They are parasite that ruined Nigeria, but their saviour in this Nigeria is Yorubas. If not, they would have gone to their desert to owe the oil and resources their. They have their agriculture for themselves and are selling it to southerners and still own the oil in the south. I think we southern youth must strongly kick against that Northern ownership of oil in the south. If they wish, they can create 19,0000000000 States and 478,0000000 LGA in the North. If not for oil, they wouldn’t create greedily to favour themselves.

  13. Okon April 3, 2013 at 9:38 pm

We talk too much. As for me any day it happens am ready to fight till my last breath to get away from the northern vampire.

  14. austin April 4, 2013 at 8:46 am

I like d comments made so far,I really the nation is tired and say d truth u are on hv bn following the politics of did northerners.
On Nigeria army, pls lets nt undermine their efforts towards restoration of peace and safety of all of us.they r humans and it is nt easygoing facing dis sects members, the casualties recorded so far is composed and should be considered good, cos the army carried out those operations in a professional by protecting the people.sect members earns point when they more casualties!i saw d joy and happiness in d faces of all of us when d news was broken on d success recorded by d army
The kano state Governor shld be closely monitored, when we talk about intelligence, there shld accurate database and satellite monitoring which the USA and other world powers are using to gain informations,it is obvious that the northern are greedy.
Gov’t should closely monitor and restrict traveling to Saudi Arabia and Iran.dis elements called book haram get support and training, financial aid from.i suggest gov’t to stop financings any form of religious exercise of any faith…then every border should be well secured and guided..
As a matter one of the best way to counter did security challenge is to go give and train every Nigerian on security wise,it is better we fight dis together!
lastly,no one should be afraid to face and fight book haram is they better we embrace ourselves and give the army and other security agencies s needed support to excel.

  15. kingsley April 4, 2013 at 9:09 am

The simple truth had been that no mater what the army does, the conspiracy bw d northern leaders and their almageri children with d bokko haram vampires had made this battle very difficult since it is not good to vanquish the citizenry with the bokko boys and they they live and operate within the communities who give them cover and refuse to betray them to security agencies.the other alternative would have been to altogether destroy the communities with their masquerade but that will be we need to praise the military for striving against the tides in the fight against bokko boys.and also make it clear to d north that this masquerade they are robbing will most surely dance them to abyss.
