Established and upcoming artistes have started jostling to be part of Town & Gown Gigs, a music, comedy, wine and food fiesta put together to spice this year’s edition of Nigerian University Games (NUGA) taking place from October 2 – 14 at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun State.
NUGA is Nigeria’s biggest collegiate sporting event and will have 63 universities converging at OAU with a cumulative spectator of about a million people. And therefore, the Town & Gown Gigs is being organised to create an atmosphere of jollity and conviviality that would be ignited by the Games
“We have started receiving calls and visits from artistes and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry who are keen in taking part in the show, most especially some upcoming artistes who are afraid that they may not have a space in the whole arrangement. We’ll like to assure artistes, old and young, reigning and upcoming that the T&GG platform will not discriminate, and the stage is set to accommodate them all.
Most importantly, we want to assure the upcoming ones that they should put their acts together because the musical festival is out to give them the opportunities to showcase their talents,” says the event’s Director of Communications, Bayo Bankole aka Boy Alinco.
While endorsing Town & Gown Gigs, Dr. Taiwo, Chairman, Ife Central Local Government, believes the event is a great opportunity to put his local government in the focus. He assured participants and spectators of the best of hospitality from the cradle of civilisation.
“We will support Town & Gown Gigs and cooperate with the organizers in the area of security, logistics and all forms of assistance necessary for the success of the musical festival. Notwithstanding the fact that OAU is a federal institution, it is located within Ife Central Local Government, this is why more than anything, we shall be responsible for giving hundreds of thousands of sports men, supporters and enthusiasts that will troop into the local government the best in terms of hospitality and entertainment,” he declares.
As an auxiliary musical festival, tailored made for NUGA, Town & Gown Gigs will feature fashion, dance, business and tourism, while the local/traditional drums of the Ife people would also be rolled out to paint the mood blue.
