Anenih seals Amaechi, Lamido, Aliyu’s fate

The fate of three governors believed to be opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid is to be sealed by the report of the reconciliation committee led by Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, Daily Sun has learnt. The report will define the Presidency’s relationship with Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, as well as Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, even as a group is seeking to reconcile Jonathan and Amaechi.

Should the governors embrace Anenih’s “olive branch”, sources disclosed, the Presidency would reciprocate by soft-pedalling on some punitive measures already lined up against them. Some of the measures include launching of co-ordinated attacks on the credibility of the governors, and creating a public relations problem for them. The plot reportedly took into account the difficulty in getting the governors’ state assemblies to impeach them, but the easy target is their relations and associates. Another option reportedly explored was probing the public service records of the governors. Prior to becoming governor,

Aliyu was permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Cabinet Secretariat and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), among other ministries. Lamido spent four years as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Obasanjo administration. Last December, Kano airport officials arrested his son, Aminu Lamido, for reportedly concealing $40,000. He is undergoing trial. A source told Daily Sun that it won’t be difficult unearthing “something damaging” on Lamido and Aliyu, who also served as permanent secretary in the National Planning Commission, Ministry of Transport, Establishment and Pension Matters.

Another Presidency source, however, told Daily Sun that the three governors may have realized the dangers ahead and have begun to soften on President Jonathan and seek ways to worm their ways into his heart. The official listed the allegiance of loyalty which Amaechi pledged to the PDP leadership two weeks ago when the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, visited him in Port Harcourt. The source also disclosed that the Presidency was analysing the body languages of Governors Lamido and Aliyu in view of Anenih’s reconciliation visits, last week, to both governors. The official said they were encouraged by comments by Lamido’s colleague, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, that he remained loyal to PDP.

Daily Sun learnt that the Presidency was also pleased that Anenih tried to assuage feelings in Niger State, by declaring that the PDP’s 2015 presidential ticket was open to all. “The magic wand worked, because Governor Aliyu didn’t raise the issue of President Jonathan’s pact, but instead made a scapegoat out of the national chairman, blaming the intra-party crisis on his leadership style,” the source said. Meanwhile, a group, ‘The Caucus’, whose majority is believed to be South-South leaders are seeking to reconcile Jonathan and Amaechi. The group is worried over the cold war between the two Niger Delta leaders.

The team which met about a week ago, according to a Daily Sun source, is operating under the name, “The Caucus’’, whose membership also include politicians and technocrats and spread across the country. Amaechi’s leadership of the forum of 36 governors, the NGF, has set him on a collision course with the Presidency. A new platform, the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum had since emerged under the chairmanship of the Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio, to galvanise support for the Presidency and the party. The source revealed that Governor Amaechi attended the meeting of “The Caucus” where resolutions were taken towards ensuring amity between ‘’two eminent sons of Niger Delta zone.’’

According to the source, “ the meeting was very revealing as both sides were frank; Governor Amaechi was very forthright in his remarks. He told us that he has nothing personal against Mr. President, but with the system. The system, he said, is not working in the interest of Nigerians generally and we are presented with an opportunity to correct it. He is hoping that with the governors working in conjunction with Mr. President, they can jointly correct it. He believes that President Jonathan is a good man, a wonderful person but he (Amaechi) is concerned that Mr. President had been unable to press that personality down to the Presidency.

He is uncomfortable that crucial issues have been handled in-house in the interest of the party, but Nigerians’ interest have sometimes been compromised while we pretend to be protecting party interest.’’ Governor Amaechi, according to the source, mentioned the East-west road which is being given attention after his public outcry, the management of Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) and the fuel subsidy removal which, he noted, courted public opprobrium for the PDP-led Federal Government last year during the sudden fuel subsidy removal. Amaechi was advised not ‘’ to operate through third party, since he has direct access to the Presidency that he should convene his feelings, directly to Mr. President on issues he feels strongly about.

He was also advised to redouble his focus on the development of Rivers State.’’ The source was, however, not revealing on whether Amaechi came out quite frankly on his speculated presidential ambition. The news was rife in the media of a purported 2015 joint presidential ticket with Governor Lamido as presidential aspirant and Amaechi as his running mate. Both governors had since denied the speculation. Meanwhile, Chief Anenih is expected to submit his report and recommendations on his recent reconciliation tours to some PDP-controlled states this week. Members of the Anenih delegation include former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, secretary of the board, Senator Walid Jubrin

, former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, former deputy national chairman, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun and Chief Ebenezer Babatope. Chief Anenih during his trouble-shooting mission met with Governors Lamido, Kwankwaso and Aliyu. The governors expressed their dissafection over the running of the party by the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Jonathan is liability to nigeria all the suffering in nigeria today is as a result of poor leadership, poor service delivery of jonathan but one funny thing is that the poverty striking tiger delta who only resort scooping fuel when there is explosion of tanker as well as the igloo people who can easily be deceived with small amount of money are still insisting of Jonathan 2015 and a bunch of his handlers like clark,to hell with you no 2015 for amateur jonathan

    • Badoo April 1, 2013 at 9:03 am

I want to believe you are a mallam from the north. You can abuse the forum by uttering unintelligent things. My question to you is ,all the problems facing Nigeria did they start with Jonathan ‘s government ,which part of the country have ruled for donkey year,is it not the north, take a look,Balewa,Gowon ,Mohammed ,shagari, buhari, babangida, abacha, abdusalam and yaradua .Had these men fixed the problems we are still grappling with, which were there during their ,Jonathan that is barely two years in office, would look for new issues to solve.Power and energy problem transcended the periods the above men ruled, did they fix it,unemployment nko,the worst corruption took place in those eras,no accountability ,all the bad high ways in the south, and other parts did not suddenly decay under president Jonathan ,they were watched by these past lrulers to systematically decay, and Jonathan for the first time is practically fixing them. The truth is that all these orchestrated and wicked attacks on Jonathan are simply mischievous and we the rest of Nigerian are not as naive as people like you think, all the subjective and biased criticisms on this government will not work. The north have been there severally military and civilian and got us into all these mess and has nothing more to offer, let other rule for some length of time so we can make objective comparism not seeking power for the sake of it.

      • don April 2, 2013 at 5:55 pm

badoo, when you blame the north remember that we are all human. they rule along with the support of the sourth our people. if we where clean as you claim we are, we would have objected to their antics and nigeria would have been a better place. also nigerians are cowards, we only write to destroy ourselves but fail to fight the leaders who are dividing us along religious and tribal ways. write with your head not your anus. poverty in nigeria today will make politicians maniputalte us with ease.

        • efula April 3, 2013 at 12:40 am

North ruled with the support of the southern people, and Jonathan is ruling without the support of the north. You guys should stop all these tribal sentitments against jonathan. The problems of this country did not start with his presidency.

It is unfortunate that the PDP led Federal Govt. has in its bid to silence, the views of D few Progressive/perf-orming Governors in the party ve hired the services of an old war horse, the ex-while Mr Fix it,theif Tony Aninie h,to coarse/intimidate some Governors for their forth-rightness and allignment with D views and aspirations of majority of Naiga masses. It is pertinent to advice the hawks in PDP,who in a bid to decieve few gulible Peple, ve shamelessly made reference to the James Iboris’current state in london jail,as if it was the PDP led Fed.Govt.war against corruption in Naiga sent D ex-Governor of Delta State to London prison, what a bunch of shameless Chauvist s’full of clandestine activities. If the PDP succeeds in its furtile attempt, led by Antony Aninieh to intimidate few Progressives in the party,wt threats to expose their corrupt actions, I dare to infor m the PDP hawks that One (I)million’AGP’Old Aniniehs will not be able to intimidate the resolve of about I6O Million Nigerians to have fresh breath after 2OI5,General elections ,if the imperious acts by notable Nigerian Leaders, will let Naiga be.Wt the way the PDP led.Govts.especial -ly the Federal, have dashed the expectatio ns’of Nigerians,I can as a political strategist,wt the succeessful merga of the progressives to challenge PDPs’S cons-piracy,Barbarity and complete apathy, the party have continued to exhibit against the Security, walfare and freedom of the masse s’of Naiga.Deployment of ten thousand analo g,Mr fix-its shall never change the resolve of Patriotic Nigerians to vote in an alternative party in centre and States come,2OI5 General elections. As obtained /practised in civilized Democracies, even among smaller Nations in the African Continent.

You are entitled to your opinion no matter how illogical.I want you to speak to the issues I raised what was Nigeria like during the term of above heads of government of northern extraction .Was power better then than now,was our airports better, then than now.I do not fathom what you mean by how he came to power.Constitutionally, every president, has a vice and there are some prescribed conditions that makes number two to become number one,if the president dies,or incapable of performing, his duty,if he resigns for any reason,or if impeached, even an idiot knows that a vice president or deputy governor is a potential president or governor if any of the above situations obtains,so what is the unexpected thing there,of course he contested and won election in 2011 as an incumbent,so what are saying.I challenge you to dispute the fact that all the problems here have not been there for over 45 years, which period your northern elites held sway.

  12. okon April 1, 2013 at 2:35 pm

Shameless Rotimi Abubakar Chibuike Amechi. Why not develop Rivers first ,then when u become veepee in 2015 u can bother about Naija. Abubakar Amechi has no reason to disrespect Jonathan. ‘They lose it that pay much respect upon the world’ Finish governorship first

  13. Uzobekee April 1, 2013 at 4:50 pm

The problem is that we do not distinguish institutions from personality. GEJ is a person. The presidency is an insitution. GEJ may be a fine gentleman, but has the finese reflected on the institution he is heading. Without being emotive about it, GEJ did not cause present problems agreed, but he was elected to help in alleviating them. Question is, three years on are we better than we were or worse off since he came in: cost of living, security, education. Health, our roads, employment, power, corruption, housing, water supply, etc. If none of these has improved, then the presidency is a disappointment. The excuse that the problems did not start with GEJ is not cogent enough for things not getting a bit better since he became the head of state.

    • Badoo April 1, 2013 at 7:10 pm

Uzobeke you only propounded rhetoric questions, you should have done your research beyond speculation ,if you listen and view power report you see that there are some parts of Nigeria that enjoy power for days uninterrupted, live feed back by views ,it may not be same in all places, more than any other leader he has shown resolve to improve power, phcn catel has been dislodged, via privatization ,Obj spent 16billion dollars for nothing.Several high ways are under reconstruction, previous regimes have been playing politics with benin ,ore road go there now,a lot has changed, same goes for okene ,Benin road serious work is ongoing now to dualise the road, previous governments did nothing ,ditto for Enugu ,onitsha road,so check your facts.I wonder if you have passed through our airports, totally remodeled,by Jonathan via his focused aviation minister,am not in govt but I read a lot and observe, not just dismissing the govt without objectivity. The insecurity occasioned by the activities of boko haram and their sponsors is well thought plan to destabilize Jonathan ,jtf is,dealing with that, but note when you fight unconventional war where your, enemy is not defined,is tough any way .listen to the news from the middle east Israel with theirs military and Mossad one of the best intelligence service in the world, still witness attacks and suicide bombing.

      • don April 2, 2013 at 6:01 pm

badoo, are you begging for a portfoli? they will get you and you will be like your brother Amechi and GEJ who are just waisting nigerians and their future. both leaders are the worst to come out of niger delta. why support evil. change my their.

  14. Okon April 1, 2013 at 11:36 pm

Jonathan is our presido, if they don’t like let them take their goat and cattle to the north and declare arewa or boko haram republic.

  15. Owerri April 2, 2013 at 6:10 am

The composition of these few man committee should have been better off without the inclusion of Ebenezer Babatope, wouldn,t he sabotage these August conveners?

  16. Owerri April 2, 2013 at 6:28 am

Kabir Maikano is not educated, joining issues with him eventually will make mess of one’s intellects. He forgot to asked himself a simple question that for over 38 yrs of northern dominance in Nigeria,s political emancipation, how did the nation fared in the committee of nations, is it on education , infrastructure or on welfarism, that they have out scored GEJ’s administration? Let them name such areas of breakthrough !

    • don April 2, 2013 at 6:07 pm

why look back when the future is ahead of us? it take a group of people to lead a country not just the head along. history still tell us that governor that perform well in thatv era are not indigenious governors. so it takes a Godly man to perform inrespective of his region, religion ang tribe. our future in in our hands not blaming others failure on the entire region.
