Anambra guber: APGA splits again

•Maxi Okwu’s faction elects Obidigbo

By GEOFFREY ANYAWU, AwkaApparently not satisfied with the reconciliation of Governor Peter Obi and National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, a hitherto factional chairman, Chief Maxi Okwu yesterday resurrected his group by holding a primary election where they unanimously elected Dr Chike Obidigbo as their candidate.

At the primary election which took place  at the MicRoyal Hotels, Awka, Okwu and Mazi Larry Nwosu  declared Dr Obidigbo as APGA flag bearer for the Anambra governorship election scheduled for Nov 16, 2013.

According to Mazi Nwosu who announced the commencement of the primary process yesterday, Mazi Nwosu stated that the special congress to elect the governorship candidate was in line with Section 11(11:4) of the party’s operational constitution and code of conduct.

He said it was imperative  to elect a candidate that appeals to the wide spread membership base and citizens of the state who would eventually beat all comers in the governorship race in the state.

Secretary of the party’s screening committee, Chief Chris Eze said that after a careful and critical appraisal of the entire aspirants’ credentials and antecedents, Dr  Obidigbo came out tops, beating all others.

He said it was in deed against all acceptable logic to sacrifice such high calibre personality on the alter of sentiments and parochialism.

Obidigbo declared elected as the candidate of the party after polling 452 votes.

Okwu, while presenting the party’s flag to him said, “APGA as a pacesetter in the nation’s polity will always get it right

He expressed high optimism that Obidigbo when elected will consolidate on Gov Peter Obi’s numerous achievements.

In his acceptance speech, Obidigbo  thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and assured to carry the party’s banner to lofty heights, adding that he was going to pursue APGA and the Igbo agenda that would lead to the empowerment of youth and women.

Confusion everywhere. Division here and there. Father against son, mother against daughter, fathater-in-law against daughter-in-law. What do u c? End Time!

    • One Nation September 3, 2013 at 2:18 pm

@Basil: It is no end time; it is usual occurrence and it will come to pass. If you read and understand the Bible, you will notice that this division thing had been existing long before the time of Jesus the Christ though he popularized the “end of time theory” .The legendary turtle or tortoise was picked up and he pulled a handful of grass. Narrating the pick up incidence to his listeners, he told them to go see where he fought at, how the grass there was cleared out in the fight. So with these factions here and there but at the end, they will all lick their spittle seeking political appointments.

It is clear to anybody that apga is dead n waiting for it’s burial right. How can a serious party be parading two candidate for one single post. Apga is trying to make de election easy for DR. Ngige. Allah bless Dr.Ngige n APC.

    • Naijaman September 3, 2013 at 2:09 pm

…the same way your unserious party, PDP, is taking two candidates to the same Anambra Guber election! So, what’s different here?

  3. okon September 3, 2013 at 11:33 am

All the politicians are not sincere. They are driven by greed, dishonesty, wickedness and hate. OBJ , Jonathan, David Mark, Tambuwal, Anenih ,Atiku, Tinubu ,Akande, Okorocha, Fashola, Oshomhole,Kwakwanso,Baraje, Wamako, etc are the same. Imagine the exceptionally gifted profligate and plunderer of Rivers State Mr Chibuike Amechi, posing as a democrat, claiming what he is not. Deceiving the people.
Amechi’s aggression against the people of Rivers state cannot go unpunished.

    • Naijaman September 3, 2013 at 2:31 pm

Okon doesn’t sound Rivers, youngman! So, what’s your bother? What’s with you & this your reckless & pathological obsession to bash Amaechi every second of your miserable life? Back off a bit & give the guy a break, yo! Better yet, go pick on your spend-crazy, scheming, wannabe Senator, Aso Rock rat, boot-licking, butt-kissing, Aso Rock lackey guvano, Ete Ubom Akpabio!

  5. Ndidi September 3, 2013 at 12:14 pm

Chaos and corruption in APGA and PDP. Although I am not from Anambra I am very anxious that they vote in someone who is committed to the good of the people. All this confusion in APGA and PDP will therefore make it easier for Chief Ifeanyi Ubah of Labour Party to win.

@Brother Owerri – I saw with thanks your reply to me a couple of days or so ago and do appreciate you but I do like this Ubah very much. It may not be the ideal thing but perhaps this particular businessman can do business as well as politics. If he messes up he won’t be voted in again. That’s of course if Ifeanyi Ubah wins in the first place. Also, I am not being rude, but while Igbo men are unable to protect the women and children from kidnapping, we women must leave the kitchen and go into politics to save ourselves and our families. When I see Igbo men begin to be the guardians of our community I will return to playing a more feminine role.

    • Naijaman September 3, 2013 at 2:41 pm

Whoever decreed that your only ends in the kitchen? Why perpetuate that fallacy, thereby undercutting your potential? What a man can do, a woman can also do. …sometimes, as have been well demonstrated, do better. Women have become bishops, Heads of States, Finance Ministers, Aviation Ministers, Truck drivers, Kidnappers, Armed robbers, Suicide bombers, Airline pilots, Space explorers, Bank CEOs, etc. Sister Ndidi, roll out your campaign and jump right in. Yes, you can!

      • Naijaman September 3, 2013 at 2:42 pm

…that your only role ends in the kitchen?

    • Tonerro September 3, 2013 at 10:18 pm

You have absolutely no reason to be apologetic or to explain why women should run for office. I have two daughters and they are in no way inferior to any man. They play complementary but certainly not inferior roles. Go for it lady and good luck.

@ naijaman, never mind Small Okon he is helping to propagate Amaechi’s popularity

  10. MR.GREEN September 3, 2013 at 4:13 pm

OKON ATLAST AMAECHI HAS SHOWN THAT HE IS A BETTER POLITICAL PLAYER THAN JONA. THE RESULT OF 19-16 IS STILL PLAYING AND WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY TILL AFTER 2015.
FOR APGA CRISIS, OBI SHOULD BE HOLD RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE HE DID THE BIDDING OF PDP BY MAKING SURE THAT SOLUDO IS DENIED THE APGA TICKET. EVEN IF APGA LIKE LET THEM PUT 4 CANDIDATE, NGIGE WILL WIN THEM .OBI IS THE PROBLEM , HE IS WORKING FOR PDP WHICH ITS FINAL DEAD IS ARROUND THE CORNER.

  11. One Nation September 3, 2013 at 4:31 pm

@Green: Please, realize that majority of these political renegades are serving their last terms as Governors and or seeking political relevance after 2015.They are all hungry of some political offices but some people out there are hungrier than they are. Atiku was made redundant by Obasanjo and he is still fuming. In politics, there is no permanent enemy only permanent interest. Secondly, if you read Chief Umeh’s explanation on why Prof. Soludo was dropped, you would point no fingers at anybody. Prof. Soludo was viewed as a risky candidate because of his brush with EFCC. If APGA approved him as their candidate, nemesis may come at the middle of election and the Party will loose.Cross your fingers my friend and get ready to celebrate APGA again in Anambra as Soludo, Ekwunife etc will all appear together to show Anambra people where to vote. Capri!!!

APC can’t wind a WARD in igboland,,, you guys should stop dreaming,,, Kola Amodu u ve really gone senile. I thought u hate Nigerian Jews? Why praying for the success of APC at our end? No way!

    • Benbela September 4, 2013 at 3:20 am

Your senility is even worst.. Currently, Ngige is a Federal Senator from Anambra State and he won the election on ACN platform. Ndi-Igbo need to learn politics from others because politics in Ndi-Igbo is at best in infancy.
      Ka Chineke mezie okwu!
