Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the administration of General Sani Abacha, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, has said that Major Hamza Al-Mustapha should be compensated for being incarcerated for 14 years.

This is even as the former Chief of General Staff in the same administration, Lt. General Oladipo Diya, who spoke with our correspondent from United Kingdom base, said he had no option other than to submit to the decision of the Court of Appeal.

Speaking on the Appeal Court ruling which absolved Al-Mustapha of any guilt in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of the presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, Useni said: “The judgment is good. For keeping him under lock and key for 14 years, I think people should be happy that he has gained his freedom in the end. So, I am happy and commend the courage of the Court of Appeal for the action it has taken. I congratulate Major Mustapha for his freedom.”

On what the judgment portends for the nation, Useni said it was just, saying that no matter how long one had been in incarceration, one day the person must regain freedom.

Useni stated: “Once you believe in God and trust Him, you will one day regain freedom. Some people it might be one month and they are discharged. How can you account for the 14 years you have put this chap under lock and key? So, apart from being discharged, he should even be compensated for all those years lost.”

Useni however called on the judiciary to ensure that it looked at every case in detail before passing judgment.

Also speaking with our correspondent, Diya said: “I haven’t seen the details and the content of the learned judges’ submission. There is no way anyone can feel about it. It is the judgment of the court and we all subject ourselves to the rule of law. So, we have no choice but to accept the judgment of the court,” Diya stated.

  1. Truth Is Bitter on

Useni should compensate El-Mustapha from his own purse. They are bird of the same feathers.

Soon it will Useni turn to serve the Kirikiri for so many years and be compensated by Yakubu Gowon.

  2. Useni now has mouth to talk ? Why didnt he mount the campaign while Mustapha was incacerated ? Useni looted FCT. He was god of FCT. He formed a party DPP he could not manage. He should better keep quiet and answer corruption charges against him at the code of conduct Tribunal

  3. Useni is absolutely correct .Al-mustafa might not be a saint but the court that grant him freedom must also consider of those lost years he spent behind bars.14 years is really much.

  4. Where went this man called Useni since Mustapha was held or confined in Lagos prison? Had it been that Useni lend his voice during Mustapha’s travail , his 14 years instinct in Lagos dungeon might have been cushioned within 3 years only. What a hypocrisy! Of what help have you rendered to his family since Mustapha’s incarceration? Now you are the voice to champion his rights and entitlements. For your information this clarion call from you should have beared human face had it been that Mustapha has finally being dismissed from the Nigerian Army. We do not need a soothsayer to forecast for us that Major Mustapha not rtd must be accorded his due remuneration (for past 14 yrs) not even entitlements.

Logically, Al Mustapha deserved to be compensated for being in prison, but come to think of it, I think he was sentenced last?

  6. Useni is a mad man period….The Judgement that he is receiving from God is probably not enough for him….Useni should compensate him…after Abacha didn’t loot the Treasury alone….I wonder what happened to Useni’s loot….Is he allowed to keep his while we scranble to recover Abachas own loot…I cant believe that drunkard is Alive… How much did Useni compensate the families of Ken Saro-Wiwa that he and Abacha killed? Did they give Ken Saro Wiwa enough time to fight for his life as Al-Mustapha has gotten…Who is even seeking the opinion of a mad man like Useni….those are living dead people that nobody should even mention their names in the affairs of this country….this country is out of the dark days of Useni and co….Who is Useni to talk about the issues of Nigeria…I thank God that he kept Useni alive to see Nigeria out of darkness and to reap the fruits of his evil while alive

USENI GET MOUTH TO TALK ABOUT COMPENSATION,HE SHOULD COMPENSATE THE FAMILIES OF AGUIYI IRONSI WHOM HIM AND DANJUMA TIED HIS LEGS TO LANDROVER WITH HIS HEAD ON THE GROUND AND HANDS TIED TO HIS BACK,THEN USENI DROVE THE LANDROVER FROM MOKOLA TO CHALENGE THEREBY SHATTERED HIS HEAD ON TARED ROAD AND HIS BODY BURIED IN A SHALLOW GRAVE.
GODWILLSURELYCOMPENSATEDANJUMA,USENI,GOWON,BALI AND OTHERS THAT KILLED OVER 3M IGBO WOMEN AND CHILDREN THROUGH CONSPIRACY AND SUBTERFUGE ,WE WAIT AND SEE HOW THEY WILL END.

  8. He deserves compensation especially as he did not implicate you, now you can release some of your illgotten estates to him.

  9. People should please read the judgement of the Appeal court first, before passing vote on if he should be compensated or not. Al Mustapha is a victim of the injustice that has ruled our judicial system and surely deserves to be compensated.
