ACN appoints merger committee, restates commitment to merger with CPC, ANPP

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has appointed a 19-member committee with the mandate to negotiate its planned merger with the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the committee, to be chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi, has as members Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, governors Babatunde Fashola and Rauf Aregbesola, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyawu, George Akume and Abike Dabiri-Erewa. Other members are Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, Chief Audu Ogbe, Chief Achike Udenwa, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Sen. Chris Ngige, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Hadjia Rabiat Eshak, Dr. Ibrahim Y. Lame, Alhaji Yusuf Ali and Alhaji Lai Mohammed. ACN said the appointment of the committee was an indication of its total commitment to making the merger a reality, adding that there was no going back in the party’s determination to work with the CPC and the ANPP to rescue and salvage Nigeria.

It also congratulated the leadership of the CPC and the ANPP, which had already named their own merger committees, for their patriotism, and appealed to all Nigerians to support the planned merger. “This is not about the ACN, CPC or ANPP but about our country Nigeria, which is tottering on the edge of disaster due mainly to the lack of leadership and failure of governance by the ruling PDP since 1999. The merger of the three parties is like a ‘Noah’s Ark’ which all Nigerians who are tired of the endless drift of our country must enter into.

“This is not about winning power at the centre at all costs, as the naysayer will want Nigerians to believe. It is about putting the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians above everything else. “We will also like to inform Nigerians that contrary to what the doubters and spoilers are saying, the three parties are going into the merger plans unconditionally and without a set mind over posts or anything else. The only issue that has been settled is the urgent need to rescue and salvage our country. In this regard, the opposition knows it has a date with history,’’ ACN said.

  1. Is this merging aimed to win election probably on presidential or are they merging to give Nigerians good governance ? Oh, i realy pity this party, from AD to AC, ACN and now yet to be determained nomenclature, what a confused set / group of people. I foresee another PDP upper hands again comes 2015. I couldn’t locate electable candidature here, Buhari,s emergence here will only frustrate their efforts with his religious extremism, all these are efforts mounted on futility. We have already studied the master plan where the pendulum is falling into.

  2. Tom Ikimi has belonged to all parties in Nigeria, first at APP, ANPP, PDP, ACN and yet be determain party. We have no principled politician in Nigeria except Audu Ogbe.

  3. This merger, not alliance, will be the best thing to happen to Nigeria since 1999, if it succeeds. I will give all to support any effort to dislodge the People’s Deception Party (PDP) from its misrule of Nigeria. My only fear is that personal interests rather than patriotism may eventuaally play out in this merger talk as happened in past efforts to form an alliance. All patriotic Nigerians should support this merger plan, for this is the only way to show the PDP the back door. So Nigerians let’s take our destiny in our hands this once.

  4. @Saka, how can you call Tinubu a religious extremist, whose wife is a christian even though he is a Muslim.
When did Tinubu become terrorist, Jihadist and thief?
Saka is so naive that he wants to die in poverty because a sensible and right thinking person should know that PDP has nothing to offer this country again other than stealing and embezzling of our money which started since 1999 till date.
I am not a politician but i pray the merger works, so that we will have alternative to PDP like it happens in neighboring Ghana which has two major parties among other smaller ones.
Let us people of good will support this merger of the opposition parties in order to put an end to Baba Obasanjo agenda for one party state in Nigeria.

  5. PDP embazzle our money without caring for the masses but ACN embazle our money and wil not allow us to eat the litle food we hav on our table, look at the way they’re increasing everything in lagos including house rent, Since 1999 how many ppl loose their properties to Acn including buildings vehicle’s etc, Tinubu use’s his wife oluremi as cover up, the whole acn govnors are muslim so tinubu is a religiouse extremist, fanatics, jihadist, thief if not where did he got all the money he’s spending, go to lagos state university and see what is happening there, so we still prefer PDP until we see a beta opposition then we can plan to send (pdp) them out, secondly i dont want to be force to become a moslim that is one of their aim thank you.
