A 35 -year-old man, Akeem Oladokun, was on Monday sentenced to 14 days imprisonment by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for contempt of court.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mary Awodele, ordered the convict to be kept in prison due to the magnitude of the offence or pay N2, 000 fine as option.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rasak Olaiwola, told the court that the convict failed to show up in court to answer to theft charge.

Olaiwola said the convict, who resides at Okefia within Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court, committed the offence on June 2.

He said the accused failed to respond to invitations to appear in his case tagged: MOS/78c/2015, which involved theft.

He said the offence contravened Section 133(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The convict pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of contempt of court.

Counsel to the convict, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict. (NAN)
