It would be a gathering of the best squash players in Europe when the AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash Championships get underway at the University of Nottingham next month.

Organisers of the event in an email to Saturday Sunsports disclosed that world number one, Gregory Gaultier would lead the avalanche of squash stars that have confirmed their participation.

This year’s AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash Championships is to be staged at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham from the 24th to 27th August.

Gaultier, 34, enjoyed a sensational 2016 season, winning six consecutive tournaments on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour and can be guaranteed to make a tough-minded challenge for his tenth European Individual Closed Championship title after suffering a shock defeat in last year’s final to Spanish No.1 Borja Golan.
