Five persons have been arrested by the police in Ogun State over the murder of a hotelier, Moses Akanni Famuyiwa.

 Famuyiwa, who was the Director of Mafland hotel, located in Arigbajo area in Ifo Local Government Area of the state, was reported to have been attacked by some hoodlums at the residence of one of his wives in the town on June 14.

The suspects arrested in connection with the murder, according to a release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, Oyeyemi Abimbola, were Dare Abiodun, 19, Femi Ayinla, 17, Abduliamin Akinlotan, 18, Jamiu Akeweje, 19 and Gbenga Ojo, 20.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, explained the hoodlums numbering about eight, had broken into the residence at about 5a.m on that fateful day and held everybody hostage.

They reportedly over-powered the 73-year-old man, stabbed  him on his left hand before dispossessing him of his bag containing the cash sum of N500,000 and two GSM handsets.

The victim, who bled profusely as a result of the injuries he sustained, later died on his way to the hospital.

“On getting the report of the case, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered the DPO of Ewekoro Divisional Headquarters, Vincent Egwuonu, to get the hoodlums arrested within the shortest possible period of time.

” In compliance with the CP’s order, the DPO and his men swung into action and their intelligence efforts led to the arrest of the following suspects. These are Dare Abiodun 19, Femi Ayinla, 17, Abduliamin Akinlotan, 18, Jamiu Akeweje, 19 and Gbenga Ojo, 20. They have all made confessional statements regarding their involvement in the murder of the deceased”. The PPRO stated.

The Commissioner of Police in the state has, however, directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discrete investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.
