• Kill four policemen

A gang of armed robbers yesterday attacked three banks in Iwo, Osun State, and carted away huge sums of money.

Among the banks were two new generation banks and an old one located in front of Bowen University.

Daily Sun gathered that four policemen were killed, while one of the robbers lost his life during gunbattle. Two bank staff were injured.

It was also learnt that the robbery, which lasted for about 50 minutes, started around 3:40pm.

The bandits in attempt to enter the banks destroyed the buildings with explosives.

An eyewitness account said the robbers came with four vehicles with which they escaped with their loot.

Prior to the operation, the bandits attacked Iwo Divisional Police Station, destroying the armoured personnel carrier stationed there.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Folashade Odoro, could not  confirm the incident, as she told our correspondent she was in transit when contacted.
