The Nigerian Army Tuesday  commissioned an Information/call center as part of its strategies to secure the nation and curb the menace of terrorism and other criminal activities.

The center according to the army, would increase the level of interface between security agencies and the public and provide an avenue for information gathering and sharing in the current security challenges.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen. Tukur Buratai, announced this and said the center is fully equipped with modern communication technology and manned by trained personnel and specialists from the military police, military intelligence, civil military affairs and public relations to provide administrative support.

Buratai, said “connectivity to the center is trunked through 4xE1 primary rate interface lines. Each E1 primary rate interface line has 30, channels provided by Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat and MTN, telecommunication companies.”

“The total of these 120, channels available from the communication companies have been configured and mapped to use the 193, short code approved by the minister of communication, the center can be reached across the country by dialing 193, from all GSM, networks”.

Commissioning the center, minister of communication, Adebayo Shitu, while congratulating the army, said “the center will improve the quality of information available to citizens to enable them appreciate the great work the Nigerian army is doing to handle the current security challenges”.
