The Kebbi State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant on former Governor of the state, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, over alleged discrepancies in the contract award of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport.

The House, at the sitting, on Tuesday, unanimously approved that the Speaker, Alhaji Samaila Abdulmumin Kamba, should issue the arrest warrant, compelling the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim M. Kabiru to produce the former Governor before it.

Recall that the Assembly had invited former governor Dakingari and the contractors handling the project, to appear before it but the former failed to show up. Only the contractor showed up.

Midway into the session, the embattled former governor had been thought would appear and that necessitated the drafting of anti-riot policemen to the complex. The security personnel busied themselves with checking vehicles and strange movements.

During the sitting, the Speaker had asked the Clerk of the House, Umar Buhari, if the former Governor wa, which the latter answered in the negative. “Wwith all information available to me, the former governor is not within the premises of the house”.

Hon. Aliu Mohammed Bunza,  however, moved a motion that the House should approved that the Speaker should issued arrest warrant for the State Commissioner of Police to produce the former Governor immediately.

The motion was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mohammed  Aliero, and approved unanimously by other lawmakers at the plenary.

In a recent letter sent to the former governor signed by the Clerk to the House, Umar Buhari asked Dakingari to appear before the House for questioning over alleged inflation of contract with regards to upgrading of Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna International Airport Birnin kebbi which initial contract was awarded at the cost of N12 billion.

The contract, according to the House, was later jerked off to N18.6 billion without adhering to the due process.

It added that “You are to appear before the house on the 23 May 2017 and that failure to comply, the house would be left with no option than to go the hard way”.

While addressing journalists after the plenary, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Aliero, denied allegation that the House was witch-hunting the former governor.

He added that the House is acting according to its oversight functions stressed that anybody whether Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) or All Progressive Congress (APC) found wanting would be summon by the House for clerk.
