a group, Catalyst For Global Peace and Justice Initiative (CPJ) forthnight ago took campaign against malarial scourge tagged: “Malaria prevention and control Campaign” to Aralile community, near stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The Executive Director, Mr. Henry Onifade, while addressing the people of the community said the campaign was necessary because of the prevalence of the malaria in Africa. He said Africa accounted for the 50 percent of malaria in the world; hence this informed why the group took it upon itself to embark on the campaign to create awareness among the people, so that everybody would know how to prevent it. He explained further that the best way to tackle malaria is to prevent it and that the only way to do that is to always make environment clean.
Onifade said everybody must make sure that their environment is always taken care of by making sure that there is no stagnant water within and around them and that they should make sure that there is no overgrown bush to prevent mosquito from having place to lay their eggs. He said, if this can be done, malaria would be reduced drastically and this in turn will reduce the scourge of malaria.
The representative of the Surulere Local Government Area Sole Administrator, Ajibola Tajudeen corroborated Mr. Henry Onifade’s submission. He said malaria accounted for the greater percentage of the maternal mortality rate in Nigeria. He explained that malaria is dangerous to the women, most especially pregnant women. He enjoined the people of the community to make war against malaria a priority to them. He advised them to cultivate the idea of using mosquito net, most especially pregnant women, so as not to endanger the lives of the mother and the unborn baby.
The campaign that attracted an impressive turnout witnessed the people of the community taking treatment for malaria. Drugs and Long Lasting Insectcidal Net were distributed to those that turned out for the programme.
