There are claims that the Boko Haram terrorist group late Saturday released a total of 82 of the 250, Chibok girls that were kidnapped from their hostel in 2014.

News of the release of the girls filtered into the airwaves at about 8pm with no official reaction or statement coming from the federal government.

Sunnewsonline sources gathered that spokesman for the Minister of Information, Segun Adeyemi was said to have confirmed the release of the girls on his Facebook page.

A presidency source however told us that the presidency cannot confirm weather or not the girls have been released.

But the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG), group who have been at the forefront to demand for the unconditional release and safe return of the kidnapped girls could not also confirm the information.

However in a statement issued by the group last night, said “We have been made aware of the yet-to-be-confirmed news that a number of our missing 195 Chibok girls in captivity today for 1,118 days have been released through a negotiated deal.

The statement signed by BBOG, spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, said: “It would be recalled that in October last year when 21 girls were released, the federal government, specifically the presidency, said that 83 were ‘on their way’ to join the 21 released ‘soon’.

“We await official confirmation from the federal government and a release of their names. We, as usual shall go to work to confirm the news to verify its authenticity, and communicate same to the public.

“Our hopes and expectations are high as we look forward to this news being true and confirmed.”
