Veteran journalist, Danladii Bako has given a pat on the back to Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung over the reforms he introduced ahead of the sports federation election.
Bako told Daily Sunsports yesterday that the guidelines released by the sports ministry alongside the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) were in order, insisting that it would open up the space for new brains to come on board.
“I am impressed by the steps the minister has taken ahead of the sports federations election. I believe he means well. The tenure limit would see the Hayatou’s in our sports give way for people with fresh ideas. I don’t see any reason why a federation president would want to continue after three terms,” Bako said.
The former Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) director general pointed out that one of the problems facing Nigerian sports is the fact that people who are genuinely interested in developing it hardly get on board.
“With what the minister have done, I see some positive changes,” he said.
The sports federation election is billed for May 30 in Abuja. The sports ministry disclosed early this week that the election forms are now available for interested candidates to pick for free.
According to the election timetable, completed forms are to be returned to the sports ministry on or before May 9 for verification.
