Owerri, the capital of Imo State, will tomorrow Saturday April 22 host the next edition of Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour. The show will take place at the International Conference Centre in the city.
However, it was an explosive night of vivacious music and swanky entertainment, as a galaxy of Nigerian stars stormed Awka, Anambra State last Saturday for the Glo mega concert.
Anchored by the duo of Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Ebube Nwagbo, the event held at Marble Arch Event Centre turned out to be a special Easter gift for residents of Awka and its environ. Guests at the show had fun all through as Olamide, Di’ja, Timaya, Runtown, Yemi Alade and Omawumi performed one after the other, delighting them with the best of their music. The night of fun also featured celebrity appearances by Richard Mofe-Damijo, Patience Ozokwor aka Mama G, lead character in the Glo-sponsored TV series, Professor Johnbull, Kanayo O. Kanayo as well as delectable actress, Angela Okorie.
The show started with dancing competition and this was followed by the performances of local artistes such as Emiboizy, Titilaptop, Emkizzy, Tonero, Videch and Zyryes who all gave good accounts of themselves. Two Glo subscribers, who had already competed in the online engagement activity vide #glosings60seconds, Endless Pella Iyke and Chief Priest also used the platform to demonstrate their talents.
The first A-list act to entertain was Di’ja, who performed creditably to the admiration of the crowd. Moving from one track to the other in quick succession, she complemented her performance with the introduction of Thelma, an Igbo ethno-rapper, who became an instant hit with the crowd, and successfully proved that what Phyno can do, a woman can also do. Next was Omawumi and her band and they thrilled the crowd with her hit tracks, Kokoma, What a Bang Bang, Bonsue, Somori, and As I Dey.
Midway into the show, RMD appeared on stage to educate the crowd about the Glo Café application. He also took time to mime Phyno’s Fada Fada track and added some dancing steps that the crowd applauded. The show moved to a higher level with the appearance of dancehall act, Runtown, who kept the crowd on their feet with rendition of his songs including Fijo Gbowo, Emergency, Bend Down Pause, Walahitalahi, Superwoman, and Mad Over You. Yemi Alade was the next act and with tracks like No Do Me, Kom Kom, Kissing, Ferrari, Taking Over Me, Charlie, and Tangerine. She brought excitement to the show and the crowd could not contain the excitement especially each time she paused and froze during her break dance.
Timaya took off with his Dem Papa signature tune and went on to dazzle the crowd further with I Concur, Overdose, Money No Dey, and closing with Won Fe Pami. The last act was Olamide who lived up to his ‘king of the street’ appellation. For over 40 minutes, he kept the crowd under his control with powerful delivery of different tracks.
