The family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has raised alarm over what it called a plan by security agents and prison authorities to eliminate the IPOB leader through prison wardens.
As part of the plan, the family alleged yesterday, that security agents and prison wardens have continued to humiliate Kanu and others detained with him at Kuje Prison, Abuja and had stopped him from receiving visitors in the prison.
In a statement issued by Prince Emmanuel Kanu for the family and made available to Sunday Sun in Awka, the family said, “We observed that  security agents and prison authorities through the prison wardens are planning to eliminate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without anybody knowing when it will happen, that is why they are making sure nobody visits him again.”
The family noted that against the normal five-hour daily visitation allowance for inmates of the prison, Kanu and  others held in prison custody with him were only allowed one hour to receive visitors and for five days, Mondays to Fridays only.
The statement said; “We observed with great dismay the conspiracy by the Department of State Services, DSS and Prison authorities through their prison wardens to stop Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from receiving visitors in Kuje prison, Abuja.
“The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally alongside with him are only allowed to receive visitors for one hour a day from Monday to Friday in a week while other inmates were always allowed to receive visitors five hours in a day from Monday to Sunday, 7 days a week.
“However, it is a huge embarrassment on the side of the British government which has been denied access to visit  Kanu in Kuje prison by  security agents and prison authorities through the prison wardens.
“The security agents and prison wardens stopped the British people who intended to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in  prison.
“Every other inmate enjoys his or her rights of receiving visitors five hours a day from Monday to Sunday in a week, including Boko haram members, kidnappers, armed robbers, murderers and hired assassins.   Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others who didn’t kill a single fly are however denied this right.
“In line with this, we are calling on the international community, USA, EU, Amnesty International, Human rights Watch, men and women of good conscience and other relevant human rights organizations around the globe to caution the Federal Government  of Nigeria and her security agents to stop this barbaric attitude towards our son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
