Awka the capital city of Anambra is  agog as it prepares to host the 7th edition of the South-East cricket championship.
The  four-day competition billed to hold from March 8-12 , 2017  at Paul University, Awka, Anambra state, will see the five eastern states namely; Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi jostle for the trophy at stake.
Former vice president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation and the major sponsor, Barrister Chuma Anosike, confirmed this at a press conference held over the weekend in Lagos.
Chuma said the idea is to encourage the game of cricket, by having all the South-East states represented.  Each state is expected to present one team while Anambra the host state would be represented by two teams.
According to Chuma, there have been numerous challenges facing the host state in terms of getting the required facilities for the  competition, adding that they are hopeful  the government will come in to provide the necessary support for the tournament.
“We have been faced with so many challenges, and its been a struggle for the host state to get the required facilities for the competition but we are hoping that the government would come in,”Chuma  said.
