AT least two persons were shot dead and several others seriously wounded as youths in Army uniform invaded Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, last Friday eve­ning and wreaked havoc.

The armed youths be­lieved to have come from neighbouring Ogbe-Ijoh community came in a commando-like style at about 6pm and started shooting sporadically in the sleepy Aladja Community.

Dependable sources said the two victims whose names were given as Sun­day Chiakagwu and Sunday Ovien were shot at close range, just as several persons were seriously injured.

Our correspondent further learnt that sev­eral buildings were set ablaze, while other valuables running into millions of naira went down the drain.

Typical of Guerilla warfare, the Ogbe-Ijoh invaders who were armed with dangerous weapons such as AK 47 rifles, dynamites, shot guns and cutlasses, left no one in doubt of their pre­paredness to deal a final blow on the town, maim several persons with their weapons of war.

As a result, villagers who heard the sound of gunshots abandoned their children and ran into the bush and neigh­bouring towns and villages.

An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent, described the situation as bloody, while condemning the warring youths for deal­ing mercilessly with their neighbouring community.
