…Congratulates Nwoye

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Sen. Andy Uba to accept his defeat in the August 26 primaries in the state.

This was the National Working Committee  of the APC, on Monday, upheld the election of Hon. Tony Nwoye as the party’s candidate in the November 18 Anambra governorship election.

The party which made the plea, on Wednesday, in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary in Enugu, Mrs. Kate Ofor, appealed to Sen. Uba and the other aspirants that were not successful at the primary election “to close ranks with the party and support Nwoye to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the Anamba governorship election.”

Mrs. Ofor congratulated Nwoye for surmounting the “booby traps” put on his way by some individuals, she claimed worked clandestinely for Governor Willie Obiano of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who is the major contender of Nwoye in the race.

She also congratulated Nwoye for choosing Hon. Dozie Ikedife (Jnr.) as his running mate, describing the choice as ‘master stroke’ and one that would give APC victory in the election.

Sen. Uba had written a petition to the Appeal Panel after the primaries, alleging that the exercise was marred by fraud and widespread irregularities.

It was widely rumoured then that the Appeal Panel allegedly recommended that Nwoye be dropped until last Monday when the  APC National Working Committee upheld the election of Nwoye as the party’s governorship candidate.

Mrs. Ofor, therefore, described the confirmation of Nwoye’s ticket as  landmark and a milestone in the bid of the APC to wrest power from the APGA, in Anambra State.

“APC’s mission is to rescue Anambra State from Chief Obiano whose performance is better couched in propaganda; when you compare the over N70 billion he inherited from Peter Obi his predecessor, billions from federal allocations and humongous internal generated revenue, Obiano has not only performed below the expectation of Ndi-Anambra in the past four years, but has also unduly consigned Ndi-Anambra and by extension Ndigbo to the periphery in Nigerian politics.

“It is high time Ndigbo joined the mainstream of Nigerian political stream and re-enact the ageless lessons of the Great Zik, who thought us how best to engage in national politics. Zik had admonished us to always play in the premier league, not in the minor league. We are tired of lamentation of marginalization in a country where Ndigbo towers high in the human development index and prosperity index,” Mrs Ofor said.

She claimed that Nwoye has pro-people mentality, vast experience and youthful energy needed to lead the silent revolution to return Ndigbo to mainstream Nigerian politics through the scheduled Anambra governorship poll.

She, therefore, called on Ndi-Anambra to vote for Nwoye on November 18, saying that even the Great Zik of Africa would be happy in his grave to see that the state regains its position as the ‘Light of the Nation’.
