A group affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Concerned Anambra Youths, has accused the Anambra governorship candidate of the party, Tony Nwoye, of attempting to blackmail the party’s primary Appeal Committee.

In a statement signed by the president of the group, Nonso Ojukwu, he said Nwoye’s recent statement accusing the committee of trying to drop him was an attempt to blackmail the party.

“It is becoming clear that Nwoye has resorted to propaganda aimed at tarnishing the credibility of the Appeal Committee and its members.  In a story, published in one of the national dailies on September 12, 2017, he accused the committee of colluding with the members of the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), to drop him as the party’s governorship candidate.

“This campaign of calumny against members of the committee and the NWC is a deliberate attempt aimed at blackmailing members of the committee and members of the party’s NWC. It is an attempt to stampede the committee into a miscarriage of justice.

“Rather than resort to anarchy and chaos, Senator Andy Uba, chose a legitimate avenue to seek redress against a perceived wrong.  It is the duty of an Appeal Committee, properly and legitimately constituted, to review the case in question and give a verdict.

“Why did he (Nwoye) suddenly begin to malign members of the Appeal Committee and respectable members of the party’s NWC? What reason is behind this sudden desperation? Why is he openly passing a vote-of-no-confidence on a committee that had just begun sitting? He should remain calm and trust in the ability of his own party to do what is right, rather than resorting to discrediting highly placed members of his own party and its conflict resolution mechanism,” the group, said.
